Yeah I think so too. The challenge is he needs to stay up with the claiming team, but I can see a few teams who might need a 6th/7th guy with upside and has room.

No, he doesn't.
Whoever claims him can play him a few games and waive him if he doesn't work out and they can try to send him down. Or they can waive him right away and send him down if they figure no one else has put a claim on him and they could slip him through.

I'm pretty sure activeStick had it right, if the second team decides to send him down and he clears, he goes back to the first team, and having cleared waivers the first team can send him down to their farm team.

Nope. If the original team wants to claim him back, they can try. If they are the only team to put in a claim, then they are free to send him down to the minors without waivers.
Two years ago, Alex Barre-Boulet was waved in October by the Lightning, and claimed by the Kraken. Ten days later, the Kraken put him back on waivers, and the Lightning reclaimed him, but there was nothing automatic about it. He was put on waivers, and the Lightning did submit a claim and were presumably the only team to do so, based on the waiver priority list.
Last season, Jake Leschyshyn was placed on waivers by Vegas, and claimed by the Rangers on Jan 11. The Rangers waived him again on Feb 23, and when he cleared, sent him down.

From Friedman: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...ontract-talks/
Quote:
The gulf between the Ottawa Senators and restricted free agent Shane Pinto widened this week. According to several sources, the player was disappointed with a recent offer in the one-year, $1M range.
Pinto’s agent, Lewis Gross, and Senators GM Pierre Dorion both declined to comment.
|
Quote:
Pinto is believed to be seeking a salary in the $2.5M range. He could, in theory, ask for a trade, but those same sources were adamant that has not happened, that he prefers to stay and the Senators have made it very clear they want to keep him. They see Pinto’s potential.

Lindholm for Sillinger ++
Pick/prospect to Ottawa for Pinto
Kadri-Backlund-Pinto-Sillinger-Zary would be a relatively solid center group but no elite number 1 but a few young guys and a couple old boys

Taking a while to get to 5000

Ottawa can't sign Pinto because they have no cap space. Can't send them Lindholm. Thats partly why they're trying to move Joseph. They need to clear about $2.5-$3M

No way the Sens are giving up an unprotected 1st for a guy who's UFA, and if they can't sign Pinto, they can't sign Lindholm to an extension, either.

According to Capfriendly, he has not accrued the necessary number of games to be eligible for an offer sheet.

Would be interesting because a 2.14M offer sheet is only a 3rd round pick.
nm. cant.

Pinto will be yet another huge miss by Ottawa if they let him go. Classic Ottawa. They have to be bottom 5 all time in asset management

I haven't been paying attention to cap situations. Calgary has 21 players and no cap, with Kylington not included. Ottawa has 19 players and no cap, with Pinto not included. There are some serious moves to be made before rosters are finalized.

Getting Pinto would be a coup going forward.

Dallas is still the best landing spot for Hanifin. Three way deal with Ottawa? Calgary could use Pinto, and Dallas is very deep at forward. Dallas needs a player to push Suter down, who is still bafflingly on the first pairing. Ottawa needs bodies that can play, on a team with championship aspirations.
To Ottawa : Harley, Bourque (this might be too much)
To Dallas : Hanafin
To Calgary : Pinto, Brannstrom
Ottawa pays picks to a fourth team to eat salary.

Can we somehow get Ty Dellandrea too?
EDIT: Or maybe we can get Dallas to include Matt Seminoff. Snuffleupagus would love that.
