Would have liked to have seen some offensive flair from our “new look” is all. It’s not unfounded criticism.

I think the number one issue is chemistry
It's just a bad mix of players, despite them being individually good in their own right.
But you just can't know these things until they play together, which is why the Flames should've held off on those contracts until the group played games together.
G'damn Brad and his hurt ego.

People need to step off the ledge. The Flames mostly controlled the play all game.
The catalyst for the 'comeback' was the coaching staff's decision to challenge the Backlund no-goal (which probably should've counted anyways), in a bid to get the captain a goal. They probably don't do that in a regular season game.
It's preseason, folks. Take a breath.

Oh no, they lost an OT game in the pre-season... FIRE EVERYBODY!!!

The wins and loss column in Pre-Season means nothing and the people frustrated aren’t upset that we didn’t get the W. Rather, its trends from last year that were evident in this game - most notably chemistry, or lack thereof.
Nobody will remember this game and I’m sure the players will move on in short order. The concerning part is if we have a game or two like this in October. People will say that it’s not a big deal and it’s working out a new system and coach etc. However, remember the margin for error in this league is next to nothing. Last year we missed out by a couple of points. Games like this matter in the regular season.
I think it’s fair to be frustrated even though we know this isn’t a make or break game or something to be overly worried about. Pre season is a time to get this out of your game after all. As a counter, people can be a little worried to see some of the negatives from last year in this meaningless game.

The Flames should bring back the “All out every shift” campaign to account for their lack of talent

It just gave so much of the last season vibes. Control the play and can't score

I didn't get a chance to watch the game, but did we really outshoot and lose in OT to the Oilers' farm team?
What in the actual f###.

Didn’t we just make fun of the no goods for barely beating an AHL Canucks team and the Flames couldn’t get it done against an AHL no good team.
Flames should get aggressive and make cuts quick and get the real roster dialled in so they can build some chemistry asap.

It’s just all so meaningless at this point. Teams are just trying to make it through this middle stretch of a too long pre season by not getting anyone hurt.

See Pelletier.
And then understand why players don't give two ####s about preseason.
As much as fans want to see them get it going, this is just basically a rec skate for them and then first 15-20 games of the season are them getting into the groove of things.
This is why most of the teams that win Stanley Cups turn it on towards the end of the season in the 2nd half as they seem to get their stuff together.

For the Flames this game came to mind:

2 disallowed PP goals vs Minnesota at 5:44 and 5:09.
Nystrom eventually scored the winner on a 2 on 1 with Iggy.

Exactly this. The vets aren't going to play like it's a meaningful game. For most of them, they spots are locked in no matter what. I'd much rather the Flames just dress players competing for roster spots. I know you need a certain number of veterans, but that is what PTOs are for.

It's been pretty clear to me that Huska has been picking which veterans to dress because he wants to try different combinations on special teams. As soon as a penalty gets called, the kids disappear from the ice and the vets rotate dance partners for the next two minutes.
I don't have a problem with that.

This post game thread is typically negative. The highlights certainly make it seem like the Flames badly outchanced the Oilers and had a questionable one called off.
Looked to me like they had a lot of great chances from cross ice passes in the offensive zone. Poirier is making plays out there, which is nice to see.

The postgame chat is negative strictly because it is the Oilers. We've seen Oilers guys (Rattie) lead pre season in scoring and be out of the league the same year.
Nothing to see here really.
However, I do want to hear peoples opinions on Poirier. At what point does his offensive instincts outweigh some of the struggles he has defensively? Especially with Kylington potentially out long term.
