Yes, Pelletier turned into it, which was a mistake. But there is no question that Studenic pushed him. And you CANNOT push a guy, in the numbers, 3 feet into the boards. Everyone knows you can't do this anymore, and Pelletier's injury is EXACTLY why.

Posted this in the other thread; definitely sucks but what doesn’t kill ya makes you stronger, this is a tough lesson for Pelletier but he will come back stronger and better for it.

I admire your optimism. What doesn’t kill you can also kill a year of development and create a recurring injury.

I think if he is going to have a long NHL career, he needs to change how he plays a little.

This is a legit concern. Didn't Dube have some of the same issues, I remember that guy getting smoked consistently.
Some more weight and some more experience will help Pelletier hopefully.

Dubé got nailed on his first NHL shift. Welcome to the show.

It’s why I brought up Backlund; he had some really tough shoulder issues early on and had his development sidetracked. Obviously there are more examples where players don’t bounce back but Pelts has a driven attitude which very much reminds me of Backlund - who just finished runner up in fitness testing at 34. So much time from now until 34 for Pelts but I’m choosing to think that he will overcome the hurdle.

Well, if it's a torn labrum like suggested, then the surgery is straight forward. Arthroscopic. To get 100% recovery, feeling normal and full motion to throw a ball without looking useless then that is a ways off (~a year).
But a scrub like me was back on the ice in 4 months...moving arm above shoulder is hard, but stick handling and shooting is easier. And it feels like a bionic shoulder 2 years later.
He is going to be much faster/better than an old dude.

Shoulder injuries suck. Hope it’s not a season derailer for him like it was for Mangiapane.

Yeah you're right to an extent. I did watch it a few times again and it's more of a rear end collision. Pelletier stops and pivots and Studenic doesn't have time to stop and just kind of runs into him, knocks him off balance forward and into the boards. And yes, he's immediately concerned.
But it's still not a 'good' hit when everyone knows the dangers of it. In my unprofessional opinion he could have done more to minimize it. Wrap his arms around him and drag him down or guide him into the boards. Still a penalty but everyone is okay.

This ####ing sucks.
We have a GM and coach that appear ready to finally lean more on young players who are ready, and one of the prospects who is the most ready gets long term injured in the first pre-season game?
Of course he did.

Figured it was collarbone or dislocated shoulder.

Yup. He was just about to get a really good shot and now this.

Not good for Pelletier and his development. I was actually curious to see how he would do this season. But to put it in perspective he did only score 7 points last year.
I was more worried when Huberdeau went knee on knee in the first game.
Big chance for another young player is the silver lining I guess.

Is that his doctor in that tweet? A random doctor guessing on recovery if its a specific injury?

If you don't want a high chance of it refracturing they typically fuse it with surgery. Common in High Contact sports participants. From what I've herd it was a clean break and not a fracture.

According to his twitter it's just some random doctor making educated guesses on NHL injuries.
