A couple of pretty good value contracts signed by Conroy to start his tenure as GM.
Backlund is an excellent choice as captain - Obviously he's still got the 200ft game to back it up but even moreso, he's got more fire in his belly than many people give him credit for which should help drag this team into the fight as the unquestioned leader now.

In that scenario you're placing all decision making on the player (or employee) which is rarely the case in real world, maybe I shouldn't have compared pro sports to corporate scenes. We can agree that there's 99% certainty Conroy was making calls trying to move Backlund this summer after his comments, only to circle back on negotiations after underwhelming offers? What has been so great about Backlund's time in Calgary that screams "better late than never, glad he's finally the guy"?
I'm not trying to troll, I don't post a lot, I'm just curious why naming a guy that wanted to go away is being deemed as 3 yrs too late. Don't we hate giving 35 yr olds contracts to stay?

I was browsing Calgarypuck to disconnect from everything else and see the reaction to Backlund being named the Captain by true flames fans. Instead I see you #### posting and decided to address it.
The timing is irrelevant and merely a coincidence.

Nice that it is two years. Guy deserves the C too.
Got Kadri and Backlund in the top 6 for the next two years at center is probably a good thing. Opens up options for the Flames.
