I count 4 locks for the Flames in this game (Zadorov, Weegar, Mangiapane and Duehr).

More than likelies in Ruzicka and Coronato.

Very quietly, Adam Ruzicka has posted three points in two preseason games. I think he has looked a lot better this year than at last year's camp.

and yet I've seen some people still harping on him for a perceived lack of effort. When you're tall, it seems that you get slapped with "being lazy" if you aren't hitting everything in sight. I think Rosie has made some really smart plays to put up the points he has so far.

Dryden Hunt seems to now have put himself in the mix of players to make the team out of camp. Impressive showing so far in 2 games. He and Jones are the surprises so far to me.

Stromgren needs to show something tonight or he will be in the next round of cuts. I know he's likely destined for the AHL anyway, but it's important to still put in a good showing in training camp so you can possibly earn a call up later.

Flames will be fine if Weegar has more ice time than penalty minutes this time out

He should just go for the pre-season record at this point. Beak the refs some more

Oesterle is probably a lock right now with Kylington out, and if Kylington is back, I would assume he would be the lock for the 7th anyway.

Great lineup from a pre-season, guys--of-interest, perspective!

Coronato and Honzek, of course.
Having Klapka and Duehr both out there will be a great comparison
Then you've got longer shots Zary, Hunt and Stromgren
And on the backend, a battle royale with Oesterle, DeSimone and Solovyov
And hopefully Wolf again

Should be fun

I think that's pretty accurate ...

Plus I don't fall into the camp that suggests all tall players have to be physical. Doesn't work that way. You couldn't make Mark Jankowski mean if you murdered his whole family.

But he needs to be more positionally aggressive. He can't enter support positions on the wall late or on the wrong side. He can't yield shoulder position to a forward in his own zone in the corner.

Those things drive coaches nuts, and he's guilty often.

If Kylington is out to start the season I wonder if they would keep Solovyov up to play NHL games. He has looked REALLY good so far. (This assuming, of course, that Oesterle is a lock.)

Ruzicka isnt just tall though, he is a big boy sitting somewhere around 220 lbs.

When you are that big, you use your size to your advantage unless you are so well skilled in other areas of the game it doesnt matter....he is not that.

And its not about being mean or even overly physical, its about positiong as you say, and he so often could help himself out by being on the right side of things where his body makes it harder for the defender to even engage in a battle never mind win one. Yet he repeatedly just....doesnt play that way.

Its frustrating to watch because at times it sure looks like thereis a lot of good with him that goes bt the wayside because he plays "small" (for lack of a better way to put it).

Hope he figures it out though because there is a world of opportunity on this team if he does.

Gilbert is in that conversation. And Solovyov is trying to insert himself into it, but he'll be a victim of numbers, plus being waiver exempt.

I'm a big fan of what we've seen from Solovyov so far. Hope he's sticking around for an extended look!

Ruzicka is never going to use his size. ANd that's fine, as long as he's hustling, as Bingo was saying. A guy like Malkin never used his size, other than as reach to make it hard on defenders. Ruzicka needs to do that. But he also needs to demonstrate some GAF.

Because of waivers, it's going to be Oesterle and Gilbert.

But what Solovyov has done is show that his game is there, and he'll be the callup guy this year.

Huska said Gilbert is fine. Won't play for a couple of preseason games.

That's precisely what people are disagreeing with.

A 5'11", 180 lb player that plays smart positionally, makes nice passes and picks up a few assists gets tons of praise for being savvy and skilled.

A 6'2", 220 lb player that makes the exact same plays gets criticized for not also throwing big hits and battling in the corners.

It's unfair to the player to hold him to a higher standard because he's bigger. Sure, Ruzicka's game would be better if he was more physical without losing anything else he brings to the table, but that doesn't make his game bad as it is.
