I live in Copperfield. As for amenities; lots of stuff around; I rarely leave the area on weekends.

I'm not so sure I would want that view of the dump. Sometimes I think I'm too close @ 5km away- I'd hate to be under 1 km away.

Oh, and Race City can get kinda loud when you are trying to sleep in on a Sunday morning.

Thats Definetly something we are concerned about.. Being so close to the Dump. They said they are looking to make it an Atheltic park in 2 years.. So they say..

I was told that when I looked at condos by Walmart in 2003. Now when I take my monthly dump trip I find myself going further and further south.

Have you looked at McKenzie Towne and Copperfield? Is there a reason those communities are out for you?

McKenzie Towne is a little more established, has things like paved back lanes and the option to build a 2 story garage. Copperfield is nice in that there are a couple of ways in and out- having immediate access to 22X is sweet; especially with how back 130th is starting to get. (See Westhills and Shawnessy.)

Actaully already live in Mckenzie town.. lol. we are just looking for a bigger house.. Looked at Jaymen houses in Prestwick but could not find a Lot we like.

Estate homes are to expensive and I didnt like any other homes in Elgin.
Kinda limted there if your looking to build.

I highly recommend it, it's a great area to live in, the people are friendly, and it's a quiet "green" community (if you care about that). My house was built by Sterling they did a great job.

I was going to be a prick and say it's cleaner than Old Brighton... but apparently not

I used to work at Sheperd dump, and you should not be able to smell it anywhere unless you're on the tipping floor.

Garbage is buried and compacted usually minutes after its dumped there.

The only thing you might be able to smell are the tar pools on a hot windy day

There's a flaw in your logic. For that to happen, the wind would have to be blowing from the east on a warm day. In Calgary the winds primarily blow from the west. Sometimes it's from another direction; for example in New Brighton anything from NW to NE would send it your way.

Also, how far are you from the dump now compared to the new place?

I live in Mckenzie Towne and love it. New brighton would be a good choice however I would like to have you double check on that promise of the athletic park before buying. I emailed Ric McIvor just out of interest ( the landfill doesn't bother me) and his people got back to me and said it had another 30-40 years left!!!

I was shocked that they could build houses that close if they didn't plan on turning it into a park shortly.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just can't see myself ever wanting to be there.

In any case, using Google's Pedometer to figure out the distance; it appears that as the crow flies Sobey's is about 1.5km from the edge of the dump, and where they are building houses now is about 0.6 from the edge of the dump.

No worries. I am not sure I want to live there either. Hence me asking about the community. Seems nice. Just location.

Here is the trouble We found a house we like with a Lot we liked. I am looking around to hopefully find the same builder in another neighborhood.

But if not what do you do. Go for the house and lot you like but live closer to the Dump

Just curious if it was Morrison Homes you were looking at?

I was looking at a few places down there, there do seem to be some nice lots down there.
