I mean...its dumb. If that was his actual strategy then he's a far bigger idiot than even I thought he was, but I wouldnt say its 'impossible.'

So you think it's more likely that Babcock devised a brilliant plan to piss off a guy who was going to represent his country which he has done countless times by making a 4th line grinder and bench him while almost costing team Canada in the Olympics?
Or it's more likely like the story said that he told Iginla we don't need you to score but be a grinder in an attempt to bury and embarrass a proud man and have it blow up in his face as Iginla and Crosby carried Canada to gold and now no one remembers the jackass for anything in 2014 it's Crosby screaming Iggy.
I bet that really stings Babs.

I'm not saying its 'more likely.' I'm just saying that its 'not impossible.'
Look. Babs thinks he's God's gift to coaching right? Such a strategy is not beyond someone who thinks he's always 'the smartest guy in the room.'
I also said that I think it would be astonishingly stupid. But we're talking about Mike Babcock here, so 'astonishingly stupid' is not out of the conversation either.

I’m sure you can open your mind to the variety of tactics coaches across all sports have used over the last hundred years to, in their mind, motivate players to push themselves to the limit.
Seven games is plenty of time to play mind games.
Do you think a coach has never gone into a Stanley Cup final with strategy to impose on his players? Of course you don’t. Just roll the best lines from puck drop in game one and let er ride.
Coaches will and have done what they think it takes to push players to get their best.

I’m not saying it’s Paul Bissonette, but I’m not not saying it is Paul Bissonette. Something to consider.

Its a good thing nobody said anything close to these things, but odd you have to make it up to try and pass yourself off as cool.

Weird. If nobody said any of it, why are you offended to the point of trying to take a personal shot about it? And, since nowhere in the post did I suggest anyone said any of it, it seems really weird for your response to say that nobody did.
Really, super weird.

Only embarrassing one is you if we have a thread about a abusive coach be sure you will jump in to find someone to defend them.
Of course a bully would enjoy watching that type of of behaviour.

I wasn’t offended at all, weird you felt you had to make that up.
Since you aren’t saying anyone said it it’s weird you brought it up at all.

You replied to me to tell me that a lighthearted post I made hours ago (that, according to you had nothing to do with you or anyone else and did not offend you, and was a reply to a completely different person in a conversation you were not involved in) was weird and just to make myself feel cool then because… why?

Your reading comprehension is beyond poor. You should really work on that. Though I don’t expect you would take my advice because you’d first have to comprehend what I suggested by way of reading it and then comprehending it.
Treat yourself to a learning session where you bring yourself to full understanding of what a bully is. Part of the exercise will require a mirror. I’m sure you have one or more.

Iggy, as always, a class act. Never heard a peep from him about it, did what he was told. But I'll bet it definitely got him fired up. As most teams learned the hard way, try to play mind games with Iggy and next thing you know he's got a pair of goals with a 3 point stat line. Thankfully he had an MVP calibre tournament in the end.
I'll bet Babcock was trying to fire up Modano too by sitting him out his 1500th game. Surely that was his intention.

I always wondered why Iginla wasn't on the 2014 team. Maybe he was a wash versus players like Marleau or Sharp but I had felt he should have gotten the benefit of the doubt due to his performance in 2010. Knowing all this about Babcock really makes me realize why.

Or Kunitz smdh. That was Iggy's last 30 goal season too so it's not like he would've been a purely sentimental pick.

Exactly. His numbers that particular season were comparable (or better than) a good handful of other players on that squad.
