I think Toombe's numbers are way more realistic. I imagine the UCP's numbers are some sort of starting position for a negotiation but I don't want to give them too much credit, either way more than half is ridiculous.

First off, that's not true at all. I stop being nice when people relish in the fact they have made mine and the lives of others worse, and continue to strive for it. There are plenty of people I disagree with around here yet when they ask for stuff in other threads I still offer help.
Second, I don't care. And they aren't rants, they are truths.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but the "Albertans pay more, but receive less" is disingenuous when we are talking about the CPP at the individual level. If I make $100k/year (because I am on CP), my contributions and benefits don't change whether I live in Calgary, Vancouver or Toronto, no? As others have stated, the differences at a provincial level is a demographic difference, not some built in unfairness to we poor Albertans.

Correct. And if you earn more, you contribute more (up to the CPP max which is $66k this year), but you also receive more in benefits when you retire. So who's being wronged here? Nobody.

But on average we are doing terrible because a higher percentage of us have made more than $65,000 / year over the past 20 years (inflation adjusted) and aren't yet retired.
And even worse, people are 4x as likely to move to BC after retirement so more CPP gets paid out in BC than in Alberta. Imagine all the economic activity that could be created if we had to pickup the medical bills for all those pension earners.

#Ableg YIKES!
UCP MLA @rebeccakschulz is the Minister of Environment & Protected Areas of Alberta
Cole Shultz, her husband, JUST lobbied the UCP to change our climate policy and “land & water management”
Why didn’t Rebecca or Cole disclose this MASSIVE conflict of interest?

Jason Scott
WTF?
The EXACT SAME Australian mining company who was BLOCKED from DESTROYING Alberta’s Grassy Mountains is back!
They SECRETLY filed 3 applications to run open pit coal mines….AFTER LOBBYING @rebeccakschulz
The destruction of Alberta under the UCP is unprecedented!

We can safely assume that most of us will be long dead by that time. Don’t you know how FYGM works? Did you ever stop to think of all the people in the 50-65 age range who are already eligible for a max CPP payout and could use a nice little top up by adding a new pension plan to their retirement earnings?

Apparently the NDP are launching their own survey with a simple yes/no answer. Good on them. I can't imagine the majority of Albertans wanting anyone messing with CPP, it ain't broke and doesn't need fixing.

It was surprisingly hard to find by googling (but maybe it's just not SEO yet, and I also don't wade in the social cesspools)

The NDP survey asks for your name so you are ethically limited to one vote. The UCP survey has no such limitations- feel free to be creative.

Where are the form letters to MLAs, the lawn signs. I think the campaign against this needs to get early and aggressive.
We're basically acting like the UK circa 2016, about to do something reckless just to prove how much we don't like some people half way across the continent.

Are you saying I need to make room on my lawn next to my "Protect our Parks" sign? I may not have any space left my the end of Smith's term...

Don't imit yourself to lawn signs when you can put up posters and banners on your exterior and maybe paint your sidewalk in protest. Paint your roof in protest so that people flying into Calgary can see your message.

Why not spell out your super important political beliefs like some Albertan farmers do by mowing craptacular slogans in your fields for all to see from the air!
Stick it to the Libs who fly Air Canada! And enjoy the message if you fly WestJet!

The erosion of our public infrastructure is a real problem but on a scale of parks to pension plan, I am far more worried about our pension plan. It really sucks that the conservatives wanted to create a world where slowly but surely most of them will not be able to access the public benefits we've enjoyed over the past 80 years, but ####ing around with my pension is another level.

Are you suggesting UCP voters are in need of that kind of information relaying? Do you think it would help make them not so dumb? I dunno, I might need to get some sky writing going on.
