Wonder if Andersson gets a nod for the away game, and obviously Backs didn't play.

Wasn't clear it was a joke?

You have that Backlund pissed in my cornflakes reaction to the player and signing him for three days.

Sorry, I didn't get the joke. I just don't think signing Backlund for big money over 3 years is a good move for this team given its cap situation and future contracts to be done. I actually like Backlund, I just think it's time to move on.

No need to apologize ... but the joke itself certainly points to you coming across pretty much exactly opposite to a person that likes Backlund.

People seem to forget how hard it was for this team to find competent centers. While age is a factor, they need Backlund or someone similar and you pay through the nose to get it/keep it for such a critical position.

Otherwise, what you get is Ben Street centering Iginla and Tanguay.

Um, no...

Flames have Lindholm, who is the center in that reference

They also have Kadri.

Backlund is the 3rd line center,

Yeah, if the Flames didn't have Kadri then a Backlund signing is much more palatable. No point in re-signing Backlund if Lindholm goes either.

Backlund is the 3rd line center,
which is a very good thing

replace Backlund with Ruzicka or Jones, and suddenly it looks iffy for the playoffs

Key question is are the Flames a playoff team, or are they a bubble team?

If they are a contender, then yes Backlund is a key piece.

Maybe, this is a team that has made the playoffs 1/3 years and lost a lot of talent. Bubble I would say as mentioned earlier.

Could be, so many players had off or really poor season, hard to imagine that would occurring again.

I would not identify the Flames as contenders, however.

I think this is legitimately a playoff team, and a Division contender.

I would say this is a team that has won the Division 2/3 of the last 82-game seasons and has replaced a lot of talent with similar players.

In an absolutely dismal year with practically everything going wrong, this is essentially the same group that lost 17 OT/SO games, and missed the playoffs by two points.

I think if the Flames score more goals than they allow they'll have success.
If they allow more goals than they score, they will have less success.

I believe both the eye test and the analytics support this.

Um, that's kind of my point...

If you lose centers, you have to replace them.

I just want Mikeal to re-sign and be named Captain so I can finally order that jersey.

Agreed, and I didn't know what topic to post this in, but I saw this prediction for next season so what a good segway to post it.

First, 8 slides explaining how the model is calculated in detail.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CxnpYbdA...RlODBiNWFlZA==

And the season predictions...

https://www.instagram.com/p/CxlDzJSA...RlODBiNWFlZA==

Predicts 49.2 wins - 22.0 losses - 10.8 OT losses for a total of 109.2 points and 1st in the West. 98.6% playoff probability.

So analytical models agree they are a playoff team, and supposedly a pretty good one.
