I just hope this doesn't complicate things if or when he has to renew his travel papers from Russia.

In soviet Russia, Door jam you.

There is an old comedian names yakov smirnoff, and he used stupid jokes like that. His career ended as fast as it started. But, he still made fun of Russia, and it was corny. The joke was meant to be Cheese

What "travel papers"? He has permanent residence in the US.

Oh, I didn't realize he is a permanent resident or that being a permanent resident means he doesn't travel on a Russian passport anymore.

Zadorov doesn't have a US passport yet, but permanent residence means he has a green card. He did say that he'd be eligible to apply for US citizenship in about two years. Possessing a green card does mean free travel to/from the US all the time, though. The interviewer didn't ask anything about his Canadian status.

Much to your chagrin, that's one thing that will never happen.

I wonder what people who stuck up of for Ovechkin supporting Putin "because he has no choice" think of this.

Good question. The reporter did press Zadorov on multiple occasions about Ovechkin. It's really worth the time to watch the interview.

But, why don't we ask one of the luminaries of our time for their sought out opinion?

The issue with Ovechkin isn’t that he doesn’t speak out against Putin - very few Russian athletes have done that. The issue is that he actively and enthusiastically carries water for Putin’s regime.

Wow, Big Z is quite the guy. Brave, funny, nasty when needed. And quite good at hockey.

Extend this man, great member of the team.

There's always a choice.

Some are just aren't brave enough to openly make the right one.

They probably think it’s great. Why wouldn’t they?

I stuck up for Ovi, and I still do. If he disagrees with the likes of you all he'd gain is being ridiculed for buying into Russian propaganda. Suppose he agrees with Z and and he wants to come back to Russia at any point, how would that affect him? No matter what Ovi says, those words would have huge consequences for him, and won't change anything over in Russia.

As Z said, he doesn't really have any relatives in Russia right now and his parents are of a completely opposite political view. Even Z discussed his decision to speak with both his manager and his wife, because it had direct consequences for speaking out.

Also, you make it seem as though the Russian population actually has a vote on what the government does. When people tried to protest the war, those protest have been quickly put out with overwhelming force. That's why so many people fled the country.

Not sure what "the likes of you" refers to, and I think you are reading a lot into what my one sentence asked.

The likes of you meant people that get most of their information and biases from Western media that mostly tries to paint the picture of everything Ukraine is doing as good, and everything that Russia is doing as bad.

Russia is definitely the aggressor right now, so I'm not making any excuses for them. However this war is not quite as black and white as the media portrays it from either side. I base my opinion on stories I heard from family/friends over there. I have family in eastern Ukraine, western Ukraine, in the Donbass, and in Russia.

I am a nobody, yet I still feel uncomfortable sharing stories outlining some of the problems, flaws, and dark sides of Ukraine. Every discussion just ends up being us vs. them. That's why I can see why Athletes would be reluctant to share their views, and then have to defend them over and over.

People like you do a lot of assuming on the political views of others, based off very limited information (especially for an individual who criticizes others for not being informed).
