You don't put out a release for a one-day absence.
You do this to support a player from being inundated by the media and to prevent wild speculation that ultimately can compound an issue; based on what's known (and from Kylington himself), a mental health issue.
These guys all have the internet, they all probably read the news/reports around them, and there's a real human toll that comes with seeing your name next to tabloid-like speculation. Rather than let the media run wild, I think this is an effort to try and get ahead of it: call it a personal matter, rip off the bandaid, and hopefully create space for this guy to recover.
I'd love to see Kylington back in a Flaming 'C' -- but if this training camp is a litmus test for whether or not he's healthy enough to handle the pressure of a full, regular season, I don't like the way things are leaning.
He's already made more than many of us will in a lifetime. He's got options. He's been working hard to try and get himself to a better place, and he thought he was there.
No matter what, I hope he puts himself first, no matter what that looks like.

Obviously, the hope is that Kylington returns and is a good top 4 D for the Flames

well, the rumour I heard from a source that wouldn't be prone to spreading misinformation (but that I won't repeat because I can't verify) was that it wasn't physical as far as his year long absence goes. As for right now, who knows.

Kylington himself came out and said it was mental health related.
It's not a secret: https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/kylington...gles-1.6516325

The team asked the fans and media to not speculate last year. I think the vast majority of people respected it. Then Kylington himself did an interview outlining the issue, and saying it's past him. Then the team itself started hyping up Kylington coming back. It wasn't just the media, it included the likes of Conroy and Huska.
Even this morning Leslie, who's really well connected to the team, was pumping Kylington's tires. This really makes me think that the fitness test issue blind sided the team. It's very hard to not speculate, because the statement coming from the team this morning looked like damage control. It's a complete 180 from the transparency the team was projecting in the offseason.

Why do people post stuff like this? I know far more than you guys, anyways I won't get into it because it's a private matter, just letting you know that I know more.

They all exaggerate their heights. They also tend to have huge legs and relatively small upper bodies. It actually a sport where being too top heavy just makes you an awkward skater and having really wide shoulders can be a hinderance as it limits your ability to get around other players.
I've been shocked at how small every pro-hockey player I've met was. The most shocking was Cory Schneider who claims to be 6'3'' and 215 lbs. He looked nowhere near that height and very skinny. He succeeded in the no reasonable limits on goalie pads era.

Not sure how they’ll look on the ice, but I really love the looks of that top line on paper. Hopefully they find some chemistry quickly.

I was very irritated by his agents stance on "contract" since the Flames were so supportive last year.
This recent development is very concerning. First off, I hope he gets help. Secondly, I would guess very strongly that he may not be back after all.

The team didn't help reduce speculation with this wording.
You have "Following....medical and physical testing" juxtaposed with "private personal matter" after he did an interview in the summer about mental health.
Just say less like he is day to day or something.

Feel bad for the guy, but selfishly I don't think the Flames should have to carry the $2.5 million cap hit for second season if he is unable to fulfil his contractual obligations because of something not directly hockey related.

LTIR this year at a minimum. But I would not be against the pushing the contract forward a year if that is something that is even allowed.
