Tanner Pearson was a trending down player coming off a serious injury to his hand. I wish him the best of luck, but this trade makes the team better and saves their bacon all while costing a 3rd rounder.

Taj twitter gets posted in Canuck threads here like it's some voice of the team

He's a troll

Also not only does this mean no more Spencer, but silovs doesn't need a year wasted only playing 20ish games as demkos backup.

Well, it is a trade that needed to be made, and they did okay, but it really is to fix mistakes of their own making:

Signing Pearson in the first place
Having to buy out OEL
Extending Miller (and Kuzmenko, who had an unsustainable shooting percentage)
The Myers contract in the first place.

Silovs would likely end up playing 40-45 as Demko's back up. The upside to Abbotsford being the farming team is he'd be able to go down on games he isn't playing and play in the AHL.

Drance wrote an entire lengthy article on The Athletic today making basically the same point - it's a fine trade in isolation, but it's part of a longer history of the team putting itself in a bad situation.

You shouldn't have to trade a pick to free up cap space in the same offseason as you made the biggest buyout in league history and hamstrung your franchise for years in order to... free up cap space.

I don't see the issue with Miller, point a game guy who at 8 MM looks pretty good bang for your buck going forward, the whole "locker room cancer" was blown way out of proportion, guy doesn't like to lose, would never have been framed the way it was if he wore a flaming C.
A two year deal for Kuzmenko at 5.5 after scoring 39 goals and 74 points seems like a great deal, even if he sores 30 it's great value.

Miller being a locker room cancer is not a Calgary thing

Drance is the new Gollum Gallagher.

If the Canucks won the cup, he'd write an article complaining about the parade route and order of names etched on the cup. He'll find the storm cloud in every silver lining, even if it's a clear day.

He's still right. All the doom and gloom has been 100% valid. The "well this move could work out well" takes have been more or less universally wrong, except for Kuzmenko, and I'm not sure anyone thought that signing him was a bad idea, most of us were busy laughing at Edmonton's failed attempt to get him there.
