Do you have issues with dates not liking or indifferent to the Flames??
I think I have issues.
Over the past week, I had a date with this really sweet girl. Things were going really really well, and we had great conversations...up until I started mentioning the Flames. I tend to mention the Flames quite a bit when I'm around people, but if I find the person being disinterested, I usually stop and talk about something else.
I guess it kinda felt disappointed that this girl didn't respond the way I was hoping for. When I mentioned the Flames, her eyes glazed over. Now, I know this shouldn't be a big deal, but it really sucked that I feel like I couldn't really share this part of my life with her.
My last gf wasn't too big on the Flames either, and would complain if I watched hockey with my buddies. I really don't want to go back there, it was horrible.
Where the hell are all the women who love the Flames??

There's always going to be areas of each of your lives that you're not going to share much with each other... If a prerequisite for a partner is them being an equally rabid fan, then you're making your potential partner list VERY short.
Look at it this way, she can bring balance to the force

Don't really have issues with it, but a girl who is a fan of the Flames and knows hockey in general is a huge, huge positive for me.

Meh.
She probably isn't into hardcore porn or rebuilding a 1968 Corvette engine either. Just like how you aren't into babies or wedding planning. There are still lifestyle differences between men and women.
Take her to a few games. It might "take".

I'm not asking for her to be a rabid fan like I am. I'm just asking for some acknowledgement. Maybe a "oh yeah, I'd like to go to a Flames game one day."
My date just didn't say anything, but looked like she was starring into space lol
I did go out with another girl on the same week that was a huge Flames fan, but looked like we'll probably just stay friends, which is fine by me.

Sorry, couldn't resist replying to this one.
I am all for people having their own opinions. I think, being from Calgary, it is only common sense that MOST people MAY be Flames fans. I personally respect anyone who is loyal to their teams (as opposed to those who just jump on the bandwagon when the going is good).
By the same token, I am loyal to MY team, even though my team isn't the Flames. I started going to Wings games at the age of 4 and have been loyal to them since that time - for better or worse.
I have dated a few guys who were staunch Flames fans and have respected them and their opinions. I would expect the same in return.
I have never run into the problem of "battling" over team loyalties. If anything, it makes the betting more fun.
RESPECT, in my opinion, is integral in any relationship and if you get trashed for supporting your team, then I would say there are bigger problems on the horizon.
I would, however, have a hard time dating someone who wasn't into hockey AT ALL because it IS a big part of my life. In saying that, sometimes different interests add a "spark" too.
Anyway, this is just my opinion ~shrugs~ and it's worked for me over the years.
Good luck.

Oh please. There are LOTS of women who like hockey. I know, because I'm one of them. The question for you is; where are you meeting these women that they don't like hockey? What kind of girl are you looking for?
Hockey is a huge thing... it's 82+ nights a year, 2 or 3 nights a week for months. If you can't share that part with someone, it's a lot of time you end up fighting over.

Good response. I should have added that if the girl was into any hockey at all, that would have been positive. I've had a great time with girls who are oiler and vancouver fans...cause they contribute quite a bit to the conversation. I'm always respectful to rival fans...however playoffs a different story, let the trash talk begin jk.
So basically, I am like you. Any hockey is better than no hockey.

My gal didn't like hockey when we first got together, but the '04 run got her on board and she's been on the wagon as a casual fan since. By casual I mean like, she'll watch games with me, but not on her own. Though, she'll ask how they did when she knows there was a game the night before or whatever. She usually just picks a cute player or two and cheers for them for the season.
Give the gal some time. I'd suggest taking her to a game if y'can and show 'er what the excitement is about, but that's obviously not gonna happen for a while.
I'll agree that it's a huge bonus to have a gal who's at least into hockey, if not a rabid fan.

my wife is the one who is with me at every Flames game I go to. She's not a huge fan, more of a casual one. She enjoys the games and watches on TV as well. And I'd never expect her to be as big a hockey fan as me.

Sorry to deviate from my own topic, but did anyone notice that Date my Pet banner on CP? I just had to point that out because of the bizarre factor.

lol, I agree. White girls are great. However, I've never really been attracted to white girls (though I did date a couple back in high school).

My wife is spanish, so her hockey interest was zero. Now she is interested in it and does follow the team and watches and goes to games with me.

for me a general interest in hockey is a must. As in, acknowledge the sport, and be supportive of the fact that I'm a fan.
As for being a Flames fan, if that was a requirement I might as well join the seminary. I can't find another Flames fan let alone female Flames fan where I'm from (Halifax Drunk would be the closest, and while he's a nice guy I have no interest in dating him, sorry to crush your spirits there HD, it's just that you're too old for me). The concept of dating a Flames fan is so foreign to me, that I don't know if I could, even if I found a girl that was a fan of the team from Calgary.
It'd be like me dating a Texas Rangers fan, I have to bring into question why you like the team. I mean I know why I do, I'm messed up, but why would a normal human being?
The thread did shift to a girl liking hockey. As previously stated, as long as she likes hockey I'm good with that. Heck as long as she accpets the fact that I like hockey I'm ok with that. I don't need someone to watch Flames games with, but then again I miss a lot of Flames games living where I live. So for me to miss a game is nothing as I don't get 80% of them anyway. So unlike what FireFly mentioned, it's not 2 or 3 nights a week for me.
For me if you can make me laugh, and put me at ease, I might even put up with a girl who is an Oilers or Canucks fan... I mean the challange to convert would be kind of fun anyway.

Too late for me now. Although my wife did come to the last game of the season with me. She seemed to enjoy herself, although I did make her wear one of those Pink Flames jerseys that I got at my staff Xmas party for her. Traded Crainium for it, and traded a portable DVD player for a white jersey, which I wear when they are on the road.

I say dump her and move on to the next chick. There's a million people in this city and I'm sure there are plenty of asian girls out there who like to watch the Flames. I've been with girls who have no interest at all in the passions I have and all it does is cause lots of conflict. She resents the time you spend on your hobbies/passions and you end up resenting her because she won't even make an honest effort to get involved.
My suggestion would be to start hanging around the gym, ball diamond, racquet ball court, and try and pick up somebody there. Chances are if they are into other sports they probably like the Flames too. I bet this girl you like doesn't do anything sports related at all? Am I right?

I really don’t mind if a girl doesn’t like hockey, or the Flames for that matter in fact in a way I would prefer that she doesn’t integrate herself with that part of my life…what I do have a problem with is when girls don’t understand that I am a huge fan, I invest my money, my time, and a lot more into this team and it is a big part of my life, for that they need to understand that they will not always be my number one priority
If I am watching a game or going to one and she calls me to hangout, or is upset because her friend bought the same pair of pants…I just let her know that right now I am watching hockey and you can wait until I am finished than you can have my attention
