I missed the anti science weirdo portion of this story can you elaborate?

“An outbreak of E. coli was declared on September 4, 2023 by Alberta Health Services at 11 daycares in Calgary. The source of the outbreak is suspected to have originated at a single food kitchen that provided food to all of the daycares.”

Yes, a recent article that doesn’t mention the UCPs past history of being anti-science is evidence of the UCP not being anti-science. *cough* *cough* INVERMECTIN *cough* *cough*

Got an email just now.. Centre remains open contrary to what the herald article says.
Wonder if this will change in the next days/hours

What is hard to understand? Nobody was pointing to that article as evidence of the UCP having an anti-science mindset.

Good point.

Today is too nice of a day. Time to go and see that new park that finally, almost, links Calgary and Cochrane.

A reasonable compromise would be to set up a hotline for daycares to call to check on any new applicants.

But of course we've reached a point in society where a totally reasonable and innocuous infringement on 'personal rights' to protect the greater good is totally unacceptable.

I think a better idea is the daycare not accepting new entrants until this is all cleared up. If they did that for 2-3 weeks the spread would likely stop.

It’s actually better business decision. The alternative is getting a black eye as one of these daycares that are contaminated.

It’s a mess all round. I learned through my kids that people are self centered a holes. My kids were constantly sick because people would send their sick kid. So daycares need to put foot down.

Paid time off will do wonders to stop the spread. Parents who can’t afford to take time off won’t be forced into having to take the kids to daycare.

Same with flexible work schedules.

Just heard from my daycare. It has a number of divided areas which my kids weren't in. The whole facility is closed Monday for sanitizing, then all but the affected rooms are back on Tuesday. The affected room has to wait for negative tests before going back.

A parent totally sent a sick kid who was there for only an hour before being sent home.

I really feel for the parents who feel like they have no choice in that situation.

Aren't they being given $2000 so they don't have to make these dumb decisions?

I don’t know what good the $2000 is going to do actually. It it’s meant to allow parents to stay home, well, that’s not a lot to make up for a lost salary.

A better solution would have been to fast track a short-term disability plan or something to help the parents out so they’re not losing their full-time salary while they stay home with the kid.

Does no one get sick pay anymore? Chances are if your kid is sick, so are you and you should stay home. Heard some parents talking in the office the other day, saying how sick their kids are and they’re getting it too. Stay home!!!

I think they gave the parents the $2000 because a lot of them still had to pay for the month, despite the centers being closed.

paid sick time isn't a requirement in Alberta, lots of people don't get it.

More Alberta winning!

Summation: we have the third highest electricity prices in the country (only better than two territories) and reducing our own personal power consumption does the least to reduce our bills.

Everything is more expensive since the UCP came into power.

The premier is touting an Alberta pension plan again. If she carries through with her promise (which my MLA also promised) it would only happen if a plebiscite supports it, no chance it sees the light of day.
