We simply don't know. And when fans interpret a single comment like that, and think they know what it implies, it always cracks me up.

His body language and the way he answered questions sounds like he does want to stay but he has a price that needs to be met which it obviously has not been as of yet.
I think its a money/term issue and not him not wanting to be here.

You just did the exact same thing - you assumed you know what he's thinking. Everything he's said so far, suggests that he wants to see the temperature of the room before he makes any decisions. I have never spoken with him, so I have no idea what he's thinking, but he HAS said that he wants to see what things are like, and he HAS NEVER said that they haven't met his price.

Did you hear his comments yesterday?
He never mentioned the room and temperatures of the team.
He said I am willing to stay in Calgary and its up to Conroy and my Agent.
That doesn't sound like a person who needs to get into the room anymore and its more a dollars and terms.
Like you said that is my assumption but his comments yesterday made it seem that way.

Sure, but that could refer to term, it could refer to bonus structure, or it could simply be a statement to answer the question, and what he really wants is to wait and see if he does in fact want to sign (at which point, it would then be up to Conroy and his agent)
Fans try to make everything black and white. Humans are more complicated than that

Bless you Connie.
There may be hope for this team yet!
Throwing out hefty 8 year contracts to 30 year olds is pure stupidity if they aren't top 10 at their position-caliber and it has to start and end with Huby's.
I'm glad they didn't offer full term. Of course Elias wants that because he knows it will be a steal from his side for the back years because he won't be worth anywhere near the cap hit at 37. It's security.
But this team has to draw a line and stop handcuffing themselves out of desperation to keep players.
You can have your 9+ Elias, but it will be for 5-6 years. That's the offer.

And I'm not a fan of dealing with Florida with their next available 1st in like 2028.

As long as the return is fair, who cares?
Fans love 1sts, but draft picks are 18 year olds - I would rather have a prospect that is a little further along and we know what his progression has been. I would rather have Sharangovich than a late 1st, for example.

But how many Shargovich-like chips does FLA have that they'd be willing to pony up either?
Lundell should be the guy, but sounds like he's off the table.
So we'd be picking from the back of the drawers of a team that's already been steeply declining in young talent for a couple of years because they've had no good picks to replenish their system.
I'd rather trade with a team with an excess of these kinds of players like Detroit or Buffalo. Better chance that you get something worthwhile because that team is more likely to deal one given the quantity they're sitting on.

As I said, as long as the return is fair.
I am not going to pretend that I am an expert on every team's list of prospects, because I am not. But I will say this: the Flames have somewhere between an average, and a below average list of prospects, but they still have Wolf, Coronato, Pelletier, Honzek, Morin, Suniev, and Zary. I am pretty sure that we could come up with multiple packages out of that list, that would be fair for Hanifin. So I would assume that pretty much every other team could as well.

One name I've herd connected to Florida/Flames is Matthew "Mackie" Samoskevich. 2021 First Rounder.
Teams are talking and as we get closer to puck drop the pressure will go up. If you fall out the gate in some divisions it could be season over in a hurry.
Nikita Zadorov and Flames have a bit of a gap in contract negotiations but I think the flames are motivated to get this one done. Flames want lower AAV and Z wants "Producers Money".
I hope Elias has a to go back packed and ready to go. Flames offered a contract that starts with a 9 and he didn't sign it. If that's the case, SHIP HIM OUT.
|
Interesting stuff. What I have heard is different from what you have heard and that is why it is a rumour thread.
I have maintained all along the the Flames original tabled offer was 8.5 x 8. Lindholm's camp started at 9.5. If there is a tabled offer from the Flames at 9 I think that is the number this deal will get done at so I think there has to be something else not agreed upon, like signing bonus or salary structure, maybe NMC vs NTC. I have said all along that both sides want 8 years and Lindholm has always wanted to stay here.
I have heard there has been no activity on offers for Hanifin since July. Those offers were very lowball.
My source indicates there has been no contract talks at all between the Flames and Zadorov. Same with Tanev, Kylington, Backlund. The Flames want to see how things play out for some of the season before addressing any of those players, their focus has been all on the Lindholm deal.

Yup. Let's say Columbus wants to speed things up, unite Lindholm and Johnny and let their really young Cs develop and fight it out. One of them (likely Sillinger) would be on the block.
What could Carolina do? Or can Colorado move some money and slot him in behind Mackinnon and ahead of RyJo?

I can't see them wanting to pay much for a goalie that is likely pegged to only start in a handful of games. I imagine they will be watching the waiver wire though.

20 games is pretty significant. Georgiev likely isn’t playing 70 games.

I got called out in June when some suggested that Vladar would get us a 2nd. My prediction was he would be put on waiver this off season and clear. If we can unload his contract and get anything, we need to just take it.

The tweet only says that Francouz may miss some time, but not a whole season. Going by that, I assume they are looking for someone to back-up for maybe a few weeks or couple of months, but not a whole season.

He has value and won't be put on waivers, unless his game falls off a cliff this year. Why move him for nothing when there will be a market for goalies, once injuries start to kick in, around the league?
I was one of the people saying he'll get us a 2nd, and I am sticking with that call.

I love that the rumors still indicate that trades are the most likely path. At least as of today.
I don't think the remaining core is going to squeeze any more out than it has, unless Huska has a magic formula.
That reset button is just too tantalizing. We just need some good trade offers and I believe those will come as competitive teams underperform and assess their needs.

Correct, as what would Colorado do when Francouz comes back? Put Vladar on waivers?
Colorado will simply bring up Justus Annunen to fill in for 4-5 games as required. He's a highly rated rookie who'll eventually be in the NHL anyway. But they can send him down afterwards.
