Strange take from that poster, but I don't think Biz ever claimed to be a journalist.

Just seen Biz's tweet, lol didn't hold back and doubled down on his version of the story. What does TNT think of this?

I still think it's likely that some player(s) believe the act with inappropriate otherwise it wouldn't have come out.
There's no doubt Commodore et al have a bone to pick with Babcock but I also wouldn't be surprised if in the past Babcock has used some of this information gained in these meetings against players.

When you put "people with bones to pick against Babcock", "Babcock's reputation generally", "the media's tendencies to jump to ugly conclusions" and "Calgary Pucks tendencies to jump to conclusions" into a jar and quickly shake them up, you end up with this thread and the eventual change of title to include "nothing to see here".

"Nothing to see here" is the PR response from the club. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Well Babcock's hasn't really earned the benefit of the doubt given his history and this being his first gig back in the NHL, the microscopes are going to be on him. I'm the furthest thing from a Babcock apologist but from what I have read and heard (from Gaudreau) this was simply Babcock trying to get to know his players and building a relationship with them. I still think the phone thing is weird but it appears that this was totally blown out of proportion by ex-players with axes to grind. I also think it's time that Commodore should just move on and let it go as he's starting to come off as petty. I get that Babcock wronged him but plenty of players have been wronged by head coaches and will continue to as people will always be people and the best course is to move on and not dwell on the negatives and make them a part of your identity.

Jack Han who worked as a skills coach with the Leafs under Babcock did tweet that Babcock did this in Toronto - but also that he didn't think it was malicious.

The tweets that Bissonette have shared haven't been that convincing IMO. Like to me is this tweet is the best evidence you have of it being an issue with a player that's not really that conclusive IMO.

Would it be a bit awkward to share your photos on the screen via Airplay - 100%. But the leap to "He forced them to give him their phone so that he could take a look at dick pics" was huge and irresponsible by Bissonette.

Haha, Sportsnet flew Marek and Friedman to Columbus to interview Johnny and Daly for a 1:30min long clip.
Maybe spend some money on your broadcasts instead.
Edit: NM, they were all in Vegas

Also noticed in the original clip Bisonette was adamantly trying to goad Babcock into coming onto the podcast, he mentions a few times very directly that he should come on the podcast to explain himself. Let's remember the incentives here -- these guys (and all youtubers/"Influencers") thrive on clicks and engagement with their content. Wouldn't put it past them at all to be very loose with their interpretation of the situation and ratchet up the drama, especially if they already have an axe to grind with him.
Also, Babcock would have to be next level stupid not to understand he's under close watch, so why would he risk his moment back in the NHL by pulling some sort of blackmail or power technique with the phones. I tend to think the CBJ explanation is closer to the truth here, but anything is possible I guess.

This is going to really blow back in the face of Bisonette more than anyone else. There has to be a bunch of agents who are going to be telling their clients not to say a word to him in case it makes it’s way onto their podcast and negatively impacts their career.
I don’t think that what Babcock did was egregious if it was simply a show me a picture of your family, let me get to know you a little bit type of thing. I know Babcock has his history of being a villain but I have a hard time believing that he would do something like what he was being accused of on his first day, especially when it is near the end of the road for him if this doesn’t work out.

If I'm guessing this wasn't a power trip or an attempt to get blackmail info. If I was to wildly guess, I'd say Babcock read in some management book that you should ask about employees' families and he (in Babcockian fashion) overdid it in a weirdo fashion.

Commodore is also calling him a pervert now.
Really don't think he is looking for dick pics but still think it's a strange way to get to know someone asking them to share their phone and family pics. To me that feels like an invasion of privacy especially for a first meeting with someone you hardly know.

I was very quick to light the torch yesterday but given the news coming out of Columbus and the statements from the players I was clearly jumping the gun and not giving Babs the benefit of the doubt.
Being in Saskatchewan and seeing how well he treated the Huskies during his brief time here, alongside his previous transgressions in Toronto, I don't think highly of him but that shouldn't mean he's guilty right away.

Going from memory as it's been a few months, but I think I listened to the same or similar Toffoli interview. He said he was a Darryl guy, loved him as a coach and then proceeded to share stories about his antics that weren't very flattering for Darryl (almost sounded like he was catching himself as he told the stories realizing they were bad antics) but then acknowledged that Darryl gave him lots of opportunity so he loved him as a coach him.
What I took from it was that a typical player will accept almost any kind of behaviour from a coach if it means getting their reps.

Asking someone if they have pictures of their family is showing interest in the person and what matters to them.
If said person has a jaded past you have to make sure there isn't an ulterior motive for sure, but on it's own it's a sign of respect and interest not an invasion of privacy in my opinion.

And this is why this is a story instead of a nothing burger.
Babcocks history and how people interpret how he wants to get to know his players.

I think I would put it more ...
