Relo to SLC makes some sense to me. It's not a great expansion market so you're not really hurting future expansion fees. You get the current clown show out of Phoenix so that it becomes a viable expansion market down the road for a different ownership group who have the ability to put together an arena deal.
I saw a recent video clip with the Coyotes president and he still talked about multiple options. Obviously they want some public funding (he let slip sales tax, which is a common funding mechanism for arenas in the US) but also want a situation where there is no public vote.

The Utah Market for the NHL is small as hell. The arena would be worse than the Coyotes playing in Footprint Center if The Suns bought the team.
The current Coyotes ownership will essentially have 3 opportunities until Gary Bettman gives Mat Ishbia and the Suns a call.
The Coyotes aren't leaving the Phoenix market.
These are my factual opinions..
edit: Logan Cooley will win the Calder

I actually think with the right ownership group the market could be really successful.
I also don't think Meruelo has done anything to signal that he's the right owner that can actually make them a World Class organization.
His handling of the relationship of Glendale and the Tempe referendum has been terrible and not something that screams "World Class" at all.
Honestly the best chance to the Coyotes in Arizona would be Ishiba getting the franchise IMO.

^Sadly the NBA's Orlando Magic would likely sue for trademark infringement if they called themselves the "Salt Lake City Magic Underwear".

That's because he and his team don't know wtf they're doing.. but they're learning and have best interests at heart honestly.
They've done some great things but like you said, some horrible miscalculations along the way.
Ishbia/Suns is my dream and I do believe it will happen if that's the last resort but I do believe Meruelo and Crew can also get it done. The Tempe deal was a well thought out and put together deal but putting it to a vote again, was a horrible miscalculation.

While the Delta Center wouldn't be ideal for the NHL, it would still be more than triple the capacity of the ASU arena.
I know a new arena for SLC has been mentioned as part of their Olympic plan (for either 2030 or 2034), but I can't find any information about where such a project stands. It likely means any team in SLC would need to play at least 3 or 4 seasons in the Delta Center before a new arena would be available.
Of course, even if the Coyotes stay and build a new arena somewhere in Arizona, they'll probably be at ASU for 2 or 3 years beyond this season anyway.
It has been mentioned here before that during one of the recent renovations to the Suns' arena, the ice making equipment was removed to make way for a premium club area. If that's true, it would seem to make any suggestion of moving in with the Suns a non-starter.
Also, the Suns' owner would need to want to buy the team, which is something we know the Jazz owner wants.

The Suns can add an ice plant, that's not the issue. It would actually be an interesting/creative club seat to be on the glass down below.
The Suns have a lease until 2037 I believe - not that far off from SLC Olympics. It would be easier for Ishbia to get an arena deal with 2 teams than 1.
His team is open to the conversation but the Coyotes aren't for sale currently.

I believe there will be 3 opportunities to acquire land. But if none of those are feasible it's 1-800-MAT-ISHBIA
