God, remember the old days when Flames fans used to say things like "they feel sorry for the oilers" and "wish they were good for the sake of the rivalry" during the 00s and 10s?
Rage inducing.
Now they have two stars combining for almost 300 points a season, and who is feeling sorry for the Flames? They laugh at us.
ALWAYS kick them when they are down. Always.

Yeah, having lived north of Red Deer for 19 years, this is my lived experience. Even if the odd one feels sympathy for me on a personal level, it's always more pitty and an offer to switch sides etc

And they still can’t win lol. Put McDavid on any competently managed team and he has a cup. Draisaitl might even get you a cup on a well managed team.
Every year they waste of their careers warms my heart.

There's no way that isn't on his mind about his next contract too.
I think another failure season this year will drive it home.
Should be fun to watch the implosion.

Resident genius Stauffer was on SiriusXM talking about the latest, greatest hire Jeff Jackson. He was raving about how Jackson was able to get so many of his clients to the NHL, then making the false equivalency to Jeff’s great development which he will OBVIOUSLY bring to the Oilers.
Now if he can just cherry pick his draft picks like he could client’s they’re all set. I’m sure firing Tyler Wright will solve all of their problems.

If they miss in these next 2 seasons and Draisaitl walks as a UFA the happiest days in CP history are on their way. Knowing that McDavid with 1 year left on his contract has done everything he can in the past 10 years with nothing to show of it and his best chance of claiming a cup are all but gone is something i look forward to every day.
Knowing the Oilers they will ride out his contract to the day of unrestricted free agency instead of trading him at the deadline because they're within 4 points of a wild card spot and if they make it in "anything can happen"

Oilers might be better off if Draisatl walks and they're left with $12m in cap space. Of course they'd have to spend it wisely which they've never been able to do. The real 'bold' move would be to trade him for some pieces they could actually use. They can always find some big dumb lugnut to play on McDavids wing he can bounce pucks off of.

If the window between Mcdavid and Leon's contract was more than 1 year I would 100% agree. But McDavid won't be happy if Leon leaves. If they trade him next summer they have 2 years to figure it out but I can't see the return being a similar player. It will be a lessor player, picks and prospects. The would need some NHL ready prospects that break out right after they get them,

My goodness. Oilers fans already bite eachothers fingers off. Could you imagine the sweatpantry when those two are traded/leave? Dare to dream boys, dare to dream.

LOL. Instead of being known as the "Pipeline" the Oilers prospects are part of the "Sweatpantry."

Stock is low in the sweatpantry. Time for some #1 picks again.

Imagine any other team in the league receving that honour and what they would've accomplished since.
Bumonton can't even win its division.

No need to imagine. The Nordiques had three straight 1st Overall Picks in '89, '90, '91.
Sundin, Nolan, and Lindros. The Lindros trade is legendary for both it's immediate value as well as the knock-on effects. Not only did they get in return one of the best players of the following decade in Forsberg, but the other pieces had direct impact on their success as well as future success (i.e. Mike Ricci was not only a contributor for their Cup in '96, but was traded for the pick that would turn into Alex Tanguay; Ron Hextall was part of a trade that got them their pick for Adam Deadmarsh who was the key piece in the Rob Blake trade, they got the pick that turned into Thibault who was the main piece in the Roy trade, etc.)
Sundin had a conflict with Pierre Page and him wanting to renegotiate a contract had the GM sour on him so despite his early success they made a less than stellar trade that essentially was Sundin for Wendel Clark (and his leadership) and Sylvain Lefebvre. Lemieux was a huge catalyst for the Avs and the way they played, and Lefebvre was a very reliable d-man for the better part of a decade. So it's still a trade they remake every time but really could have gone a lot of different ways had any of the picks and prospects turned into anything (QC's 1992 4th Overall Pick Todd Warriner turned out to be a bust, but so did Landon Wilson coming the other way).
In a stunning parallel, the forward heavy Avs were lacking a dimension on the back-end and traded Nolan for Sandis Ozolinsh. The trade was one-for-one. The Avalanche were pretty damn good up front, but didn't have any offensive threat on defense. Ozolinsh did exactly what they needed. Helped a lot that good drafting meant that players were able to step up and fill the void (a void that got bigger when a couple of those depth threats in Rucinsky and Kovalenko were part of the Roy trade).
So five years after their third straight 1st Overall Pick they won the Cup. None of those picks were on that team, and the team was in a new city, but they were Cup winners all the same. Sure the Oilers didn't get a generational phenomenon like Lindros to trade away, but the Oilers are no good so they would have messed up such a trade anyway.
After five years the Nords/Avs had: Peter Forsberg, Claude Lemieux, Sandis Ozolinsh, Sylvain Lefebvre, and Mike Ricci all directly contributing to the team to show for those picks. Even if you all the other pieces that join the tapestry of other acquisitions that isn't too shabby.
Five years after their third straight 1st Overall Pick the Oilers had Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Adam Larsson to show for theirs.
Edmonton is No Good.
