That’s some BS right there.

This is how it was in the olden days in the NHL, but the Habs got so good at powerplays they changed the rule.

I love the idea of the pp ending if you score a SHG. Rewards team for being aggressive when a man down. And it a double whammy for the PP team.

Thats actually a neat idea. I kind of like it.
It rewards attacking play.

I don't see the PK ending as much of an incentive for the shorthanded teams to change their overall PK strategy on a 2 minute penalty. It will be a nice bonus but any additional risk taken by being aggressive on the PK could mean a 5 on 3 or 4 on 2 against if the play goes back the other way. That said, if it wiped out a 5 minute penalty, it may have a bit more juice.
If there was something zany like a SH goal counts for 2, then maybe, but then you'd have teams taking penalties intentionally when down by 2 to try and tie it up late in a game.

I don't like the idea of changing the PP rules. If a SHG ends the PP for the other team, it seems kind of unfair to the other team that was on the PP.
If you let the PP go for the full 2 minutes even after scoring, it will probably just cause more embellishment and diving since PPs will be more valuable.
If they want to increase PP scoring, just make it so you can't ice the puck on the PK. Or have a limit, like if you ice the puck 3 times, you get a delay of game and more time gets added to the penalty. You wouldn't even need a whistle, just add the time while the play is still going.

While we’re on the topic of power play rule changes, I propose that if a period starts and one team is on the power play that period starts in the end of the shorthanded team.
I’ve always found it unfair if a penalty is assessed at the end of a period the faceoff comes to centre ice and kills 10-15 seconds automatically while the attacking team sets up.

^ I also think that penalties that are taken with less than 2 minutes left in the third should have the game clock extended so that a full 2 minute power play can be had.

I was about to agree with this, but you’d need to find a solution for what happens if there are subsequent penalties during that extended timeframe. It shouldn’t be that difficult to sort out.
I do however like the idea of holding the period’s opening face off in the shorthanded zone. That makes complete sense to me.

Belfast at Tappara today. If anything, the advertising is even worse today.

I'd like to see icing not allowed when a team is shorthanded due to penalty (forces them to be aggressive and move the puck). A further downside for taking a penalty.
As well, icing should be allowed if a team is down a player because the other team pulled their goalie. Make the team down a goal really work for it.

Seems Ronni had a good game, 4/7 in the face off circle.
Barnet Flame, any thoughts?

I had to go out during the second period, so I didn’t see most of the game. It looks like playing the defending champs on the second day of a back to back was several steps too far for the Giants.
Yesterday was a really good performance all round against a team several rungs up the ladder. When I left today, they were two down, and there weren’t many signs they would get anything from the game - especially with only one shot in the first and giving up a shortie.

Has been implemented in Champions League and there have been a couple of times that a team scores twice on the same 2 minute play. I don't think the NHL would ever go for it because of parity. Last thing the NHL wants is an early powerplay resulting in a 2-0 or 3-0 lead killing off the game.
The other two rules, team still gets a penalty even if goal is scored on a delayed penalty or shorthanded goal kills the powerplay may be possibility moreso than a full 2 minute powerplay.

You get used to the advertisement and at the end don't even pay attention to it. It does look like a giant mess though if you do,and I've always wondered what the advertisers get out of it.

I'd like to see some penalty time if a penalty shot is missed. Say, a minute.

I hear ya, but we've also been saying this since the 90s. The NHL isn't above selling its soul to sponsors (gambling anyone?), and they've been playing around the edges with digital boards etc, but I think they've been generally fairly conservative about not going overboard with the on-ice experience. If you compare a 90s rink or jersey to today, the amount of sponsorship isn't dramatically different. Maybe the pace of change accelerates once Bettman steps away...
It has always been strange though how European leagues are this commercialized free-for-all, while North American leagues are more tradition-minded. You'd think it be the opposite. But I'm sure there's some revenue generating reason for it.
