Any actual news on Lindholm? Talked with someone connected to the Coyotes and they suggested Lindholm is being offered around, as if a decision was made. Has anyone with connections to the team heard anything of significance?

Its getting a little embarrassing listening to Steinberg et all on 960 talk about the recent Lindholm interview with the "I'm willing to stay" line. Comes across more than a little needy. I get that news is sparse right now but hearing people say "he's willing to stay!" reminds me a little of asking a person out and getting a "I have another event" type reply. It wasn't a no!

If it's all they have to work with, it's not their fault. They have to use whatever they have, even the tiniest crumb of info and milk it for all it's worth.

The cone of silence is strong with CGY. Then again, I'm not sure it's a cone of silence at all.

I think the Flames would be silly to not have a solid gauge on the value Lindholm has around the league. An offer was made many months ago and nothing signed. While it could very well be coming back and seeing the vibe around the team before making a decision but if his decision is to let it play out and go to free agency the team needs to be ready to pivot.

It will take him several weeks (maybe months?) to gauge the vibe around the team. He can't wander into the season unsigned. IMO

I think it is fine as long as the plan is to trade him even if the team is playing well and he doesn’t want to sign. Forcing a crappy trade before the season isn’t ideal either.

I'm skeptical that Lindholm is basing his 8-9 yr decision on a few months of 'vibes'

I see it as less of a fit with Huska but more of the fit with Kadri, Huberdeau, and Weegar as the new core and wants to see if it they are better to work with under a new head coach. He will be playing with those guys for 6 years.

Lindholm is either close to signing and they’re just ironing out the details, willing to sign but wanting to see how things go for a while, or actively being shopped because he has decided not to sign for a workable amount.

Glad we’ve made progress on this situation.

Lol.

I know everyone wants news but if the reality is that he wants to move on it's in the Flames best interest to keep it quiet to maximize value.

We should put up billboards for him like the Lakers did to keep Dwight Howard the first time around.

Stay D12.

Stay EL28

Post the contract terms on the billboard.

It's an even tighter line to walk when you're the rights holder. I know the Flames are fairer about coverage than the No Goods. But fact of the matter is there is still a leash.

Too bad he went full shill with his posting but couldn't admit that he'd slid off the deep end. That was bound to perk up the resident meanies.

Hopefully he comes back if the Flames have a strong start.

Lindholm is better than Horvat, $8.75m-9m wouldn't be surprising

We’re talking about an 8 year deal. Lindholm is signing his contract so it kicks in when he’s 2 months shy of 30. Horvat’s kicks in at 28.

Horvat’s cap hit is $8.5M. Being about 1.5 years older than Horvat should have an impact on Lindholm’s cap-hit.

I also don’t see Lindholm being a slam dunk better than Horvat.

Your Coyotes source is off, Lindholm has never been offered around this summer. The goal has always been to get a deal done.

Horvat is 5 months younger than Lindholm.

I think the point you're trying to make though is Horvat was UFA a season earlier, so this contract covers one year later than the Horvat contract does.

In terms of Lindholm making that comparable though then there is no way he's going to look at it that way.

Also over the last 5 seasons:

Lindholm: 139 goals, 325 points, 369 GP
Horvat: 137 goals, 275 points, 356 GP

72 points per 82 GP for Lindholm, 63 points per 82 GP for Horvat.

Lindholm probably would argue that 9 extra points per season is worth an extra $500k to $1M per season.
