You know what?? I thought the new Indiana Jones movies was rock solid.
Especially after watching 4 days after I did the marathon of the first 4.
It's better than Temple and Kingdom. Yeah I said it. It's the 3rd best movie in the franchise.
I have always been a big fan of Temple of the Doom. Kingdom was awful though, and if it didn't exist, I probably would have enjoyed this one much more!
All that said I'm on board with calling DOD rock solid.
See I like Kingdom more than Dial. It's maybe a 'worse' movie but I don't think it's quite as forgettable as Dial. I honestly keep forgetting Dial exists and that I've seen it until I see an old ad for it a bus stop. Then forget, then see an ad, rinse repeat.

Thats actually a pretty good review.
I watched it and...it just didnt feel memorable, but it was right on the cusp.
I think some of that was poor Direction? There is a lot of fat in that film that could have been trimmed to tighten things up.
But overall, it was still a fun ride.
And I dont tend to get bogged down on CGI and stuff unless its 'Justice League' atrocious, you usually know what they're going for, you accept it and move along, so that didnt really bother me.
It just...you're right...it feels like there was something really good 'right there' and they just couldnt grasp it.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Dial of Destiny definitely felt like it was brushing up against the greatness of the original trilogy, but ended up teasing fans mostly. It just needed to be a little more sure of itself and bold in what it was going for. The old movies didn't hold back and didn't waste time.
It did have the feel of old Indiana-lite fare at moments, and given that they don't make movies like those any more, it was hard not to enjoy the ride at least and steep in the nostalgia for a bit.
I like the de-aged scenes. Felt like outcuts from Indy's heyday.
Re-watched Gone Baby Gone, what an excellent film and directing debut for Ben Affleck. Not only is it an excellent crime thriller but the ending is one of the best I have ever seen. It really makes you question your own morality and how sometimes the right thing to do might not be the legal thing.

I finally got around to watching Excalibur, I've been wanting to see it for a while because of how much it has influenced Zack Snyder and his movies. In Batman V Superman, there is a poster for Excalibur at the theatre the Wayne's visit on that fateful night.
This was probably the best version of King Arthur I have ever seen, it is so grande and operatic, the film gives the tale the importance it deserves. And the visuals and atmosphere blew me away, the sets and costumes were spectacular. Some of the sets felt like a Frank Frazetta or Ralph Bakshi painting brought to life. If you only see one version of King Arthur, please make it this one.

I finally got around to watching Excalibur, I've been wanting to see it for a while because of how much it has influenced Zack Snyder and his movies. In Batman V Superman, there is a poster for Excalibur at the theatre the Wayne's visit on that fateful night.

Haven’t watched it in a long time but was always a favourite of mine. No King Arthur movie has ever lived up to it. Did Patrick Stewart ever have hair?

Patrick Stewart is very similar to Steve Martin. They are Highlanders.
Once they hit like 25 they aged up to look 65. And then they were just stuck there in perpetuity.
Its not a great deal from 25-60ish but from 60-85ish its a pretty good deal.

Strays was better than I thought it would be. Typically these types of movies give away the best jokes in their trailers, but thankfully that wasn't the case here.
Silly and fun, and went far more vulgar than I was expecting. Plenty of laugh out loud moments. Voice cast was great.

I remember liking this indie film (the Skeleton Twins) with Hader and Wiig, but I'm not 100% sure that it was great. However, this is a scene worth remembering.
My favorite comment: "Luke Wilson looks like he just wandered in from another set because he heard the music."

Barbie was a complete fever dream of a movie. My feelings for it were waffling back and forth while watching it, but then the Ken battle royale happened and it slid firmly into "Awesome" territory. Ryan Gosling completely stole the show

Watched the 70s thriller/mystery film Coma, written and directed by Michael Crichton and starring Michael Douglas. This is a really smart and tense thriller that takes place in a Boston hospital where an unusual amount of healthy patients who are going in for routine surgery are coming out of surgery in a coma. This was long before Crichton started ER but some of the hospital scenes are very similar, just with older tech. One Dr thinks something is up, but no one will believe her, and it's up to her to investigate and figure out what's going on. Big recommend from me, it's an excellent thriller.
Barbie was great. Didn't want to like it because well....Barbies, but that movie sucked me in and kept me there. Great recipe, a heaping dash of campy/cheesy, a cup of solid storyline, and enough humor to keep it from falling on its face. Man, it was really good.

I love Excalibur. Helen Mirren as Morgan Le Faye? Yes please.
That movie is equal parts serious fantasy epic, campy live action cartoon, and a porn parody. ZS wishes he could handle those tones as masterfully

I like to think that scene was written in but completely unrehearsed. Director just relied on their insane chemistry.
