Andersson. He was my second choice (after Chucky) all along, making him my first choice.

Edit: Technically 3rd, I guess... first it was Monny, then it was Monny or Chucky, then it was Chucky or Raz... now it's Raz! How crazy is it that we still haven't had a Captain since Geo? I mean, come on... it's not like we haven't had pretty good candidates along the way.

Backlund should have been captain after Gio left. But without some term on his contract, I don't think he should be named. I went with Andersson. He has put in his time and seems to be a good leader.

I am not sure what Huberdeau has done in a Flames uniform to warrant any consideration.

If Backlund signs the extension, make him captain. If he rejects, trade him right away to get something back.
Cant see that happening, personally. He'll be $4.5-$5.5, imo depedning on how many years. I can't see $3.5 AAV for Backlund in any scenario. It would take like 6-7 years to get his cap hit down that low and no team will do that.

Yeah, I can't even see Backlund taking a pay cut cut with the cap going up. Short term, yes, but no way he signs for under what he's making now.

Yeah, I'm likely underselling the low end for a new deal, which is why the Flames haven't signed a new deal.

I wonder what those things were, and why they couldn't be done without a C on a jersey. From this vagueness, I suppose we'll never know.

With the Flames having so much turnover recently and in the near future it makes sense to give the captaincy to a player with term and my gut says Weegar is the right choice. He’s had to earn every bit of icetime and roles on his NHL teams, is willing to throw down to take justice into his own hands, and has a reasonably good ‘mean stare’. In the media he is calm, honestly direct, and exudes maturity. Seems like a guy that can hold teammate’s accountable and has the shoulders to carry the team in important situations. I like Ras too, but he’s a bit less mature and hasn’t shown he’s willing enforce his sense of justice on opponents or teammates without dramatic gestures.
