I bought the Range Rover with 242,xxx KMs on it and it has been brilliant, just solid. The trick is you get it once all the expensive finicky sh-t has broken and been fixed by the previous owners. Hell, I even have working air suspension.

Hey, more power to you. Right now I have no patience for screwing around with car issues. I think a lot of it is I have my car to worry about, my daughter's car to worry about, my work truck, my wife's car (sometimes; she handles most of her own stuff) and should be picking up a car for my son shortly. Too many cars, man. Can't wait to one day just have my own and then maybe I'll have more interest in dealing with potential issues from weirder cars or high milers.

I had a 2004 Touareg V8 – keep well away! I was surprised the Phaeton had the Audi V8, both V8s had their challenges.
As you&me says, a well-done ad. The refence to the glass factory brought back memories of touring the factory. My wife was impressed with the Canadian maple flooring and indirect lighting in the assembly area, they were building the electric Golf MK 7 then.

OK, so, where are people getting tires right now? I need 3 sets. I don't necessarily have to buy them all at once but I need two sets of summers and a set of winters. What's my best option right now?

I used to buy used and it's worked out fine but am not opposed to buying new, or even online given that the shipping is probably less painful when buying 12 tires, economies of scale etc.

BlackCircles.ca has done pretty well for me in the past, they usually have manufacturer-specific coupons / discounts available.

I used to use TireRack but the conversion to CAD just sucks too much these days.

Unless Fountain tire has a really good sale I generally use 1010tires.ca

Fountain Tire usually has good sales in October

^ The sales come when the manufacturers put out all of their rebates, for the most part. Some will hit as early as September. I'm on the lookout, as I need some myself.

No idea how accurate this is, but it's something: https://premiertiresandwheels.ca/pag...ental-and-more

1010tires has local delivery and mounting option now. I ordered our summer tires, and booked the installation once they arrived. Took 45 mins from arrival to departure to get them mounted.

After shopping around a bit it seems like blackcircles has the best prices for the tires for my Audi, although I don't seem to be able to find hakkas anywhere so I guess I am going to have to go back to Blizzaks (was on Xice3 3s for the last ~5 years). $288 per corner for winters, plus tax/enviro isn't too terrible.

Having a heck of a time tracking down summers for the Cayman though. I can find all seasons but I want actual summer tires.

If anyone has a lead on a decent price for a tire mount, let me know, as I have to do 12 wheels. EDIT: I might actually have to go with Costco just to get the mounting included, notwithstanding that Costco scares me a bit.

I think hakkas are Kal Tire exclusive?

I wish they weren't.

I'm also Audi winter tire shopping, but looking at performance winters, as I never really take it out on the total crap roads. Looks like $400-$500 a tire though. Almost double last time I did this.

I can't get this car out of my head...2022+ Audi S3 Technik. Basically a fancy MK8 Golf R without the atrocious interior. At first I thought the interior of the Audi looked too weird, but I've driven it a couple times now and have grown to really appreciate it. As an example of something that looks weird, but is actually amazing, is the vent placements for the driver. They're high up beside the gauge cluster so blow at your face/neck/body versus just at your hands like every other car. Function over fashion...beautiful.

I also love the size. Small and tossable.

On Audi forums there are a bunch of dee-bags who yip about it not being true quattro, being FWD biased, etc., but honestly, the driving dynamics are totally fun. I really, really like it. I mean, I can count on one hand the number of times I've disabled traction control to kick out the ass end of my current car RWD-biased car on drive pavement. Understeer because of the FWD bias is just not an issue for me since I'd rarely - if ever - be pushing it to that kind of limit. And even if I do, understeer is so controllable. Just let off for a millisecond and then stab the throttle. I actually like controlling FWD cars during shenanigans, let alone this is AWD, anyway.

Another crazy thing is despite the small size (it's 2' shorter than my current car, which is an astronomical difference in the car world), the interior is more comfortable and fits a big person like me beautifully. Better than any BMW or Merc (and Lexus, obviously...those are made for hobbits). Small trunk, but big enough for anything I'd do.

Two hesitations: will I miss my CLS550? TTV8 is pretty fun, but I've had this car for seven years now...longest I've ever kept any car. I think it's beautiful to look at and I really enjoy it, but it is 11 years old now, has 120,000kms, and I'm sure it's going to have some maintenance issues at some point soon. Like, it can't go on forever...even the air suspension still works and is original. Other hesitation is no cooled or ventilated seats in the Audi. That totally annoys me. What's with Audi? Can't even get them on the S5 Sportback, which is bonkers. I think the comfort otherwise more than compensates for this, though.

Here is a review that I really like because it totally mirrors my experience with the car and makes me feel justified in how much I enjoyed it, which runs totally contrary to how it is viewed in the Audi community:

Any thoughts on this sucker?

Have fun with your transverse engine, loser.

(I actually really love those cars, everything is so big and fat now, and you can only defy physics so much to try make the heavy pigs feel nimble and fun)

Audi makes beautiful cars, but they're a weird ####ing company. Their option packages make no sense. Diamond stitching seats negates the ability to get ventilated seats, which does make sense, but not removing the option totally. The A4 sedan and allroad and the A5 coupe and sportback you can still get ventilated seats. They took massage function out as an available option for anything lower than the 6's not too long ago. Their exclusive paint program is great, unless you actually want to buy it. Then you can't. The black optics package on the A6 Allroad does everything, including the rails, unless you get a full paint package on the Allroad, then the black optics is another package which leaves the rails silver.

So many little annoying things that aren't deal breakers, but just frustrating. Just an odd company.

I went through this myself with the Rangey, because I decided -- like an idiot -- to drive a newer one and was like "Wow, this is even more powerful and more comfortable and more bad-ass looking."

But then I took a step back and realized that September will be the first time in my adult life that I do not have a car payment. Why do I want to sign up for that again just to have a newer version of the thing I already have? Both my vehicles are now paid off, I thoroughly enjoy both of them, so if something breaks, just fix the thing. It can't be worth it to drop another $51k on something else, can it?

Blizzak WS90s are looking like 1285 with installation at Costco, or 1155 without from blackcircles. So about the same either way.

Yeah, probably just telling myself it's potential maintenance issues that could trigger this, but in reality I'm really not that concerned about maintenance bills, I guess.

Just kind of weird as a car guy to stick with one car for so long. I've always bopped around from different vehicle types because I like owning and enjoying all I can. Pretty big testament to my current car that it's such a struggle to get rid of it. Probably best to sit on my hands for now and continue to drive this, but that fricken S3 is a very cool car. Would be neat to go from something that's practically Gatsbyesque to a way more subtle car, though. Plus completely new driving characteristics would be a fun change.

First world car-guy problems are the best kind of problems.

I mean I literally had an Aston, sold it, and then bought it again three years later because I missed the car so much. When you find 'that car' that, hang onto it.

Although I also wish I'd hung onto my 2002 E39 BMW M5 in Le Mans Blue, too. That was an amazing beast of a car.

I went out and overpaid for a base 400Z Sport 6 spd for the lot, and it has been sitting too long, so I decided to throw my demo plate on it and have been driving it a few days. This is without a doubt my new favorite car.

This is the best redux/retro since the Challenger, except it actually drives incredibly well. It has all the wrong things right. I mean that by saying it's perfectly flawed. It sounds like trash just like an 80-90's 6 cylinder Japanese sports car does. It's not particularly comfortable. The ride is pretty harsh and unforgiving. Outside of blindspot monitoring and adaptive cruise, the tech is no different than any other entry level car. The trunk is eaten up by that big cross brace. It's completely impractical and completely awesome if you grew up with 80's RX-7's, Z cars, and Supra's.

The right things that are right. The gearbox is incredible. True direct connection straight to the gearbox. A lot of rear drive front engine cars are running linkages now. Not this one. You can feel the shifter throbbing and tilting as the engine goes through the rev range. The interior is the perfect modernization of the 70's Z car. Triple pods and all. There are so many nods to the original Z car. The hood lines/fold. The headlights, the B-pillar badge. Then you have 80's and 90's Z car in the taillights. Those wide hips look so good in the outside mirrors. The car pulls HARD. 10-15 years ago you are in 911/Z06 Territory. It handles far beyond the capabilities of 99% of drivers. The all black interior with zero chrome is all business with zero flash. It throws off an RX-7 FD vibe.

Lastly, unlike the Supra, this is a true product of Japan with the heart and soul of those great 80-90's Japanese sports cars. It kinda feels like a parts bin car, like those all were, but that's ok. It's supposed to. I just love this thing. This is the car you got, if you asked a designer in 1978, to envision the car in 2023. I will definitely own one of these soon. Probably an yellow or orange like one of those great 240Z's of yore.

I dabbled in a lot of high end cars this year. A few 911's, C8 Vette's, Caymans, an M3 Competition, GT500.... and threw my plate on all of them for a week or so. And this is the one that gave me the most driving pleasure. It's a motor and 4 wheels with nothing more to offer you than getting you around in a really fun and exciting way. You'll get 4 bags of groceries in the back, and the other three go on the passenger seat. Just like all those cool cars I owned back in the day.
