Disagree.. you guys love the bad news about the team in AZ.
But anyways, I feel this plan is just too good to be true (If your CSEC anyways - massive win for them) there's no way it'll be that easy to get shovels in the ground, will it??

I know some people there and they are cautiously optimistic. Architects for these things tend to be large, multinational specialists, they'll have a lot of influence on who ends up on the team. Entuitive does seem like the most likely choice as they've been doing a lot of the prestige projects in the city the last few years.
As far as I can tell no new Request For Proposals have been issued. I bid in it last time and it felt pretty cool to be checking out the NHLs arena requirements. If this happens in the next few years, Ive actually got a pretty decent chance (~10-20%???) of working in this and influencing major design decisions.

Will you put secret Illuminati imaging everywhere in the Rink? Like Denver Airport has.

If I suspect the arena will have a duel function as a fallout shelter for calgarys elites during the upcoming population culling, I'll post it here first. Unless they offer me a spot, then I'll let it be a surprise for y'all.

FWIW, I worked for Entuitive and stay in contact with my old boss (who was on the design team for previous iteration) and he has always said it will be entire new process. From forming design teams, the proposal/consultant team interviews, and an entirely new design. Which I’m for, as I think the last one looked like an Amazon warehouse in Balzac with one fancy elevation.

Has the process even starred for all new everything?
If that stuff needs to be done and approve this thing won't even start getting built until late 2024 or 2025

Yep, we're hearing the same thing. Would expect movement on this stage before the year is done is my guess.
Also, the warehouse in Balzac is a good one, haha. My buddy looked at the design that Dialog/HOK did, and instantly said it looked like a gigantic router. What is seen cannot be unseen.

Alberta Finance Minister Nate Horner confirms $39M has been set aside for site prep and land acquisition for transportation projects related to Calgary's Event Centre. He says it's been discussed at Treasury Board but no firm commitment that it's been approved.
Sorry no idea how to do Twitter links on here

Glad to hear this. I guess we'll wait and see if the new one is any more ambitious, but the previous version was such an uninspiring design.

I'm glad to hear the design is back at the drawing board. The last one wasn't very inspiring, to say the least. I really wasn't a fan of how it looked like an oversized Costco. But I guess as long as it's awesome inside, I'm more forgiving if it's bland on the outside. But if given the chance, why not make both inside and outside look good?

The City and CSEC spent $25 million on the previous design and, aside from the smooshed nature of it to fit everything on a 7 acre parcel of land, I imagine they liked a great deal of the design.
I would *suspect* that the end product looks like a more refined version of the previous HOK design.

Or what's flushing 25 million down the toilet in what is going to be a billion dollar arena. Pennies.
It's not like the city is spending money on road maintenance and things like that.

My guess is there will be a direction to use the same site master plan as the previous iteration (as much as possible), and same with the building's general programming and massing. The look and feel of the design details and materials surrounding the interior and exterior will likely be the most distinct update. Just my assumption though.

Doubt it given there's going to be a completely new design process and likely a different design team.
And that's a good thing because there wasn't a lot to like about the previous design!
