pretty much this. To me, it would be a different situation if Peters had really tried to make amends and demonstrated a willingness to learn and become a better person, but asking someone else to apologize for something that happened over a decade ago is not exactly screaming that. Add the timing of the attempted "apology" right before he gets another coaching opportunity and it reeks of someone who's not really sorry, but who only thinks about himself.

I'm not supporting the Hurricanes anymore. Too bad I cancelled my season tickets before the pandemic (due to being busy) because this would have been the perfect time to cancel them to make a statement.

Does he even have an agent? What planet is he on? Who is advising him, Jordan Peterson?

Who is advising the Lethbridge Hurricanes? Dysfunctional management for over 4 decades now.

Akim Aliu doesn't seem like he is ready to accept an apology. He is angry and hurt and rightfully so.

And I wouldn't blame him. But Peters isn't even man enough to reach out it seems.

I think that Akim Aliu has a huge chip on his shoulder. He thinks he's a better player than he actually was and blames Peters for never becoming a regular NHLer.

We don't know what is going on behind the curtains, so I'm not going to pass judgement on Peters. I don't doubt Aliu's story about the radio incident (he was fired from his dream job for it) but I doubt that Peters is some raging racist who goes to klan rallies during his spare time who doesn't deserve to coach ever again.

Guy does not care. Would be surprised if he felt any genuine remorse about it other than “I’m truly sorry being a racist ####### cost me my job.”
He hasn't worked in a while either, the bills could be piling so anything to get the job and some income coming his way even making a half hearted apology to get a job.

Doesn't look like he learned anything and may still be a scummy person.

Wonder who the coach was that reached out to Akim? Looks like Bill has no guts or desire to contact him himself.

Well yeah because he was tossed around the NHL because of the stigma that he is a locker room cancer and no one knew why he was angry until now.

Just like other crap that happens in hockey just don't say anything and keep it between us, especially in that Chicago organization. Seems like a real nice group of garbage that came through that organization.

OK, well instead of believing something nobody asked you to believe, would you believe he’s just an abusive coach who is also a racist in a category somewhere below “klan rally racist”?

I don’t know, I don’t know why people are so quick to write-off or diminish guys like Aliu and Carcillo who talk about physical and emotional abuse, but weep for guys like Beach who were sexually abused. Regardless of what kind of abuse it is, abuse isn’t OK and can have a detrimental impact on people. And for a game that is so mental like hockey, it can have a detrimental impact on the ice as well.

You don’t even have to think Peters is all that bad, but there doesn’t seem to be any reason to diminish Aliu’s experiences to justify that.

Community owned. I'm a shareholder... one of thousands. Maybe a few dozen show up to the AGM... Now that I think of it, I haven't been notified of the AGM for a few years now, maybe I'm not a shareholder anymore?

Tony DeAngelo is a renowned and certified dooshnozzle who still manages to find work. Evander Kane is the crown jewel of locker room cancers (and is black) and still finds work.

I'm not diminishing Aliu's experience with this coach. Racism has no place in any part of society. But Aliu is saying that in ADDITION to the racist incident, Peters went out of his way to make sure Aliu didn't ever play for an NHL team. I doubt Peters has that kind of pull around the league - and even if he did, if Aliu was good enough, he would have found work. He wasn't.

Pete Anholt is the GM. He won WHL executive of the year 2x (2016 and 2020).

He was also recently appointed by Hockey Canada as management lead for the upcoming 2024 U20 tournament.

I'd say far from dysfunctional.

Akim has a very legit beef with Peters. I doubt he blames him for his NHL career.

He also has legit beefs on racism on other teams pre-dating Peters which caused him to have his so-called chip on his shoulder. Peters was one incident among many, unfortunately. And I don't doubt they all contributed to him having less success.
