Default Calgary cops suspended after arrest video released

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...hub=TopStories

Two Calgary police officers have been relieved from their duties with pay after the release of a video that allegedly shows them using excessive force during an arrest.

....

He (police chief Jack Beaton) acknowledged that from the video footage there "may be some indication" that excessive force took place -- a complaint that was made by the person who shot the video, not the suspect himself.

Saw the video on the news and what they did was totally excessive. Really doesn't surprise me, was in the crim law enforcement program ages ago and the people in that program that would go on really scared me.

The guy was tryign to help the cop get people to leave at which point the cop asked if he was patronizing him and threatened to throw him in the drunk tank.

Or how abotu the drunks at McMahon during the last LDC getting told to sit down or they would be escorted out, they sat down and the cops hauled them out by their necks.

Cops shouldn't have to face an investigation, they should be painted guilty and FIRED!

Edit- When is the last time there was outrage on CP about assaults against police officers? More people were mad their route home was closed down, than were worried about the officer who was struck by a car.

Actually, it irks me that idiots like these meatheads give the good cops a bad name.

There are shortages in labor in every section of the work force, and the police force is no expectation…and the by product of shortages is poor quality of performance so you are going to get more bad cops…

You're the one painting the entire department with the same brush.

I haven't seen the video, but it's always the same thing with these police videos. Nobody knows exactly what was said, or what led up to the incidents. The EPS officer who took that woman down on Whyte Ave was absolutely vilified by the media, and nobody cared to learn the full and true story behind it.

Similar to me getting up from my desk and kicking the crap out of the guy in next office while it's caught on tape. I suppose that i would get suspended with pay? Not likely, i would be arrested and told never to come back.

Who the hell is this directed at? Just because some of us commented that we'll have to find alternative routes home means we're mad and don't give a damn about the cop? Wow, you sure have uncanny powers to read minds.

Not similar at all. How can you compare an office job with that of a police officer?

Way too different scenarios. Police use force now and then, you don't in an office job. You NEVER have an excuse to use force in an office, while police officers can use force when required.

Haven't seen the video, but I'm getting tired of people saying that cops can't use force to do their job. I'm all for using force if someone isn't cooperating.

Is this really surprising? It's only an issue because it's caught on video tape. Police officers quiet often do whatever they want until they get caught. They will even lie on the stand (I've witnessed it myself).
