The rumour is that the Flames have likely offered him $8.5 and he wants more. The fact of the matter is that contract values aren't entirely set right now and seem to be a bit all over the place. Matthews just extended for $13.5 million. However, we also had a bunch of bargain contracts signed earlier in the off season too. We're heading into the first bump in the cap after several years of Covid induced flatness. Plus Lindholm's value is uncertain. He was a PPG 40 goal scorer two seasons ago...but that was with 2 high end linemates. This last year he was a 64 point and 22 goal scorer....but that was under Sutter's system.

The idea that we can accurately predict Lindholm's value is false. The idea that we know that the Flames have offered a contract exceeding the unpredictable market value is even more false, as we don't know exactly what was offered.

If $13.5 million is the going rate for a legit franchise #1 centre, then Lindholm holding out for $9+ isn't outrageous. Squabbling over $250k/year doesn't seem like much, but it translates into $2 million dollars over the course of an 8 year contract.

The rumoured contract offer was slightly below market value if his agent is comparing it to Horvat. Which they will be.

Auston Matthews just signed a few days ago, I think its fair to say these negotiations take a while to complete.

Its probably a little more complicated with Lindholm because he was unhappy with the environment, I think he is taking a wait and see what the atmosphere is like when he gets here.

No one here is being overly positive. Is anyone planning the parade root? Are some posters stating that the team could rebound from last year? Yes. That's definitely a possibility too. It's not a certainty that the team will be awful next year, and we don't all have to act like it is.

I'm personally quite excited to see a team with an unchained Huberdeau, Kadri, Mangiapane, etc.. and an infusion of top notch rookie depth talent will look like. Could it fail, sure. Could it succeed, that's a possibility too.
