In your desire to rebuild they are. In reality they are not.

One year of each player for those offers is a steal.

Let's all just come to the reality.

We are keeping both players, gonna win the cup, then they will both sign sweetheart deals when they experience the topless redmile parade!!

There is middle ground between rebuild and going all in. Obviously the Flames should be closer to the former since they don't have anything to go all in with. In the case of those deals though, you take them no matter where you are. Which is probably why they aren't being offered.

I think it's more a hint around the team absolutely not rebuilding

I assumed as much, just prying for more information.

I'm not even sure starting in 2005 (the first cap season) is good enough, since it still took quite a few years to get to the point we're at today, which is almost entirely about drafting (being able to trade for a Tkachuk or sign a Gaudreau doesn't come along very often).

Edit: Also, Vegas is a massive anomaly. Saying they won a Cup without a top 3 or 4 draft pick, while technically accurate, doesn't meet the spirit of what you're looking for. No other team in history was able to be built the same way they were, as previous expansion drafts were notoriously bottom of the barrel drafts - and even Seattle's was reined in to be much less "broken" than Vegas' was.
Starting post cap would make for way too small of a sample size (it's already too small). And I don't think it would make much difference anyway - teams are competing for resources, and player talent gets distributed around the league. The draft was always an equalizer, even before the cap.

As for Vegas, I don't think they are that big of an anomaly. Many fans claim you need X number of top picks, VGS said hold my beer. They showed that depth is also a viable blueprint (though having a $90M payroll also helped). And nothing was 'reined in' with SEA, they had the exact same rules. Regardless, their single cup doesn't change the numbers that much.

I think most of the responses to my post show that fans have very clear biases. The stats don't back up those biases, so people try to reject the stats.

Saw a rumor it was for Fabbro and a 25 1st? I'm not entirely sure why the Flames would want another RHD at this point.

Much Rather someone like Glass, Afanaseyev, Svechkov, Kemmell, Wood, Kiiskanen, Ufko.

There's probably better packages they can put together.

Tanev is injury prone. So maybe it looks like Weegar / Andersson, Kylington / Tanev, Zadorov / Fabbro

Would gladly do Tomasino/Kemell + Fabbro + CGY’s choice of 2024/2025 NSH 2nd

Fabbro as a base must be coming from a Preds fan. Bottom pairing D who is 25 as the roster player is gross. That’d put me in the no hope camp.

I agree. That return would be disappointing. I would be much more excited about the 2025 1st than Fabbro.

Lol super delayed rebuild by gathering 25/26 picks from Nashville and Boston. It’s so painful that it would be the route the Flames go.
