Well I'm no insider but I did let a CSEC employee walk my dog for a bit the other day. I'm told that he was a very good boy.

Could we add a poll to this thread asking what CP would like to do with lindholm?
Stright up simple question, sign or trade. None of this 'sign him if it's only 4 years', we know he's going to want max terrm.
What say you CP?

Everyone always says that you should build your teams entirely around your left side first. Sacrifice C and G and ignore the right side completely is the best way to do that!

Sign him for sure. We have nothing coming down the pipeline right now that resembles a #1 C. I think his game will sustain well into his 35+ years.

Trade Him.
Wait until teams are desperate and willing to give up a Ransom nearer to the deadline and move him.
No question.
Unless you can move one of the other Antiques, we cannot give this guy 8 years.

I think a better question is what is the maximum number you'd be comfortable keeping Lindholm at on an 8 year contract.
Anything below $8 is a no brainier for keeping him. For me, anything above $8.25M makes me lean the trade route. I guess I can talk myself up to $8.75M, as a CGY tax. However I would be pretty upset if his next contact with the Flames starts with a 9.

I hope one doesn't come along in the next several years, because it's going to hurt like a bastard to trade them to keep a geriatric Lindholm and Kadri.

There's no chance SJ would do this deal. Huge win for CGY. Bit this is kind of an old debate at this point.

What makes you think they wouldn't trade one of the older guys to keep the younger?

I think he’s assuming neither could be traded in their later years.
I think that’s impossible to predict right now, simply too many variables.

They dump Couture and then Trade Lindholm at the deadline. Calgary gets another dinosaur. I could see it happening.

And a top 15 prospect league wide. And the dinosaur outscored the player we are trading last year. And he elevates in the playoffs. And he's a captain.

William Eklund would be a fantastic piece for Lindholm, don't like Couture's money for 4 more years but it makes the money work.

I'd puke if Couture was in a trade for Lindholm.

He also comes at an $8M price tag. He has a +/- of -30 last year, at 5 on 5 he has the following analytics: CF 48%, FF 48%, xG% 50.3%, G% 45.3. Not terrible numbers by any stretch, especially if we consider he was playing for SJ.
Coture is 34, and he's signed for 4 more years. It would be risky because we don't know in which year his age catches up to him and his production plummets. That risk is why I would like SJ to retain at least $1-1.5M.

I'd easily take Lindhom on an 8-year deal at $8.5 mil than Couture at 4 x $8mil. But we don't know if Lindholm will sign for that much. What if the number is $9.5 mil?
Couture 4 x $8 mil isn't great but he is still a good player. If he was at $6.5 mil he would be a great add.
Eklund in for Vladar? That is a great move for the long term of this team. Eklund might be the most valuable asset in the trade. He would be our top prospect.
I'd do it if Lindholm won't sign or wants $9 mil+
If Lindholm is coming in around $8.5 mil then I don't do it

I'd do that SJ trade. EKLUND iMO is worth the sticker price. But that's just me. And I like Couture and velieve he's a solid Parise type who can be effective to the end.

Didn't Eklund have a similar production to Zary in the AHL last year? I get Eklund has a much higher draft pedigree, and Eklund is a year younger, but I find him hard to project.
