Gio was a Tre signing? Gio was a Flame long before Treliving, Tre just extended him. So we're including extensions in this list? I'm confused.

And, yes, extending a player who is entering UFA status could be considered in this context.

The exercise is how did we do signing players in there UFA years. Not just signing new UFA guys on July 1. And not who did we miss out on.

Did Tre do a good job allocating money to UFA's?

Jiri nailed it i think. Player by player and reasonable analysis of where we did well and where we didn't. Gio and Backlund were great value. I think Markstrom is better than he does, but same idea. Tanev? BOOM! Neal? just finished walking to the dugout after that strikeout. Engelland? 100% agree that that deal was superb in retrospect. Jagr? Superb swing tempo, but whiffed.

Tanev has been everything and more than I told you all he was going to be. He's even been durable as a Flame.

I think Tre made some awful calls in regards to roster construction. I think he also had some bad luck. I'd call him decidedly average but could never figure out the coach/goalie position. Even when it looked like he made a good decision, it didn't work out.

I actually think Brookes is not as bad as Francis. Did you catch Francis Fridays on Flames Talk last Friday? He went at it pretty hard and even though other insiders and Conroy himself has stated Lindholm likes being a Flame, here comes Eric beating the "Lindholm won't sign here" drum while saying he shouldn't sign here anyhow because he should go UFA. Of course he also said nobody wants to play here. Guy is media poison for the Flames.

Hathaway and Duehr were RFAs at the time of signing. That's why Bouma is not on the list, or any of Gaudraeu, Monahan, Bennett, ect.

I'd personally split it to Free agents and re-signs and look at savings or overspending over the time of the contract, compared to production.

I did hear it. It’s his shtick, he’s a click bait artist. I doubt it carries much weight with the players though. Really there’s one of these guys in almost any town. Steve Simmonds, Mark Spector, Damien Cox, Larry Brooks, just to name a few.

Francis is just the Spurs of the Flames media world. Just trying to keep that toxic positivity in check, you know?
