But at the end of the day, shouldnt we consider whether this was really the most appropriate forum for this?
Its supposed to be a happy day for Grads and their families, a lot of hard work went into accomplishing this not to mention money.
"Thanks for graduating into this world of S###" is not really in the spirit of the moment.
I find it strange that a US university would even reach out to Freeland for a speech of this nature. Americans barely know who Trudeau is so I find it hard to imagine that Freeland has enough cachet for this invitation.

The bolded isn't what I took from the speech. The speech itself was more in the lines of Gandhi's "be the change you want to see in the world" or JFK's "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." I took it as a very hopeful speech. She says she can't wait to see the words of Gandhi and JFK manifested in those graduating that day.
Did you read it? She goes to tell tales of bravery and accomplishment in face of challenge and bridges to the optimism she has for the grad class to rise to the challenges of their generation. Pretty standard fair.
What do you want? Congrats for graduating don’t do anything with your degree, sit back and just take it easy, the world will take care of you speech?
If Jordan Peterson delivered the exact same speech the people criticizing it would love it and talk about how he's giving young people meaning and purpose, lol.

That snipped version of the speech must be making its rounds in the Right Wing Outage Media sphere as that speech was given by Freeland back in May 2023.

She actually has a fascinating background. While on University exchange in Kyiv she helped document a mass grave site left behind by the Soviet secret police. Then later she attracted the attention of the KGB who created a file on her for working with dissidents and raising attention of the living conditions. They created a case study on her documenting the impact someone like her could have.
I do not like her policies and think she has aided and abetted much of Trudeaus nastiness. That said she is actually someone who I can dislike politically but admire her for some of the things she’s done, she’s someone Canadians should probably know more about. I also suspect that’s why the right attacks her, she’d be a tough out if she ends up being the leader I suspect.

I don't disagree that she has an outstanding background, is extremely accomplished and is well esteemed in the upper echelon of international politics and NGOs but despite that I still doubt that she has much name recognition at the typical American dinner table.

Yeah she just screams charisma for sure. Easy election win for the far left.

I am not a fan or supporter of hers but I would not take her lightly. It’s not an easy win for her, but the contrast with PP would be easy to make and there would be danger for the conservatives in that match up.
I can’t imagine someone bemoaning a politician’s charisma after having cheered for any of the last 3 CPC leaders. It’s obvious charisma is not an important quality to you, so why bring it up?
The Following User Says Thank You to Wormius For This Useful Post:
So Freeland asks in the video, “can capitalist democracies work” in todays age.
Wow. Holy ####, this should give EVERYONE a very, very, very long sobering pause.
Can you imagine if Pierre Poilievre asked that question? Unbelievable.
The fact she asks it reveals she does not believe it can. Otherwise, no need for the question. Whacky. Canada really has headed off the deep end. Lastly, is Canada even really “capitalist”? Answer: no.

PP has lots of charisma, that’s another reason why he’s burying JT in the the polls.
He’s genuine and believable.
Freeland is half rehearsed plastic that gives off the vibe of looking at people like plants.
None of JT’s inner circle have a prayer once he’s finally gone and the lights come on to how they have actually been running the country. They will all scurry away and blame each other.
The only chance the Liberals have after JT is gone is someone completely distant from the stain of being in his inner circle.

Right, because there's been a shortage of scandals and misappropriations? The reality is, the CPC should've won power two elections ago but they keep putting in leaders who are unlikeable. Over the past couple years they've cozied up to the further right groups and seem to have abandoned the mainstream voters entirely.
The fact that they continue to lose to Trudeau isn't because everyone things he's so dreamy and his policies are so awesome. It's because they're basically inept.

I’ll take the UCP in the next election if you want a purely friendly wager?
I’ll let you take the field.
