No, the time for rain is before you see all the smoke. That's our whole problem in western Canada.

Looks like a new fire sparked in Kelowna, across the water from the West Kelowna one.
Scary night for a lot of communities in western Canada tonight. I don't know how many firefighters we've got, but it can't be enough to deal with all these fronts.

I guess I'm naive thinking the impact of climate change would be more subtle and gradual than this.
How can we live like this?

The data shows smoke in Calgary has been historically bad since 2015/2016. 4 of the last 6 years are the worst years ever. Prior to that, except 2011, we averaged half a day of smoke per year going back 60 years. Now we're regularly getting 400-500 hours of smoke.

But give Underbrother his "I wish it was hotter" glory days, while the world burns around him.

I’m reasonably confident that UCB’s preference would be for it to be hot without the world being on fire.

I'm mostly just joking, but he cheers for it regardless of anything happening.

Sooner or later no matter what anybody says about the debate about climate change or not, insurance companies are going to throw down the hammer down and demand risk mitigation in a lot of ways.
We have a bad combination in Canada of building things in higher risk areas, using very very poor quality building materials and design elements that rapidly get destroyed very quickly when mother nature lashes out.
We can and should do WAY better

Left a job site at 1 am and 27 degrees.
North wind blew in hard as soon as I started home.
Got in at 1:30, and 17 degrees. Feels like a lot of smoke got pushed back out too.
Looking forward to some mid teen temps and rain tomorrow.
Undercover can enjoy his heat when he burns in hell for his views.

Oh man, it's looking a like a nice, fresh weekend of rain and still warm temps. We need this so bad. The wetlands are starting to dry out. Hopefully, we get actual serious rain, instead of the usual overcast with a few drops that does **** all.

Was supposed to head to Kelowna this morning to take care of my BIL for the weekend (injury) but flights are canceled. My other BIL is there right now and it sounds like they're going to try and beat the rush and head this way. They're in Discovery Bay right now and while I doubt the fire makes its way into the city who knows. Kelowna is going to be a ####show, no real reason to kick around there for them.
Another day of 35-40° incoming as well. Hopefully everyone else in Kelowna is doing okay.

If you fill your hearts with hate there will be no room for love.
I have friends & family at risk from these wildfires.
I know there are others on here in the same position and I hope your friends & family are safe & remain safe.

To be fair UCB has just said he enjoys lounging around in the heat. Not that he loves it muggy, dry, smokey and on fire

It's such a weird thing to complain about. Like, I absolutely love snow days. Does that mean I'm insensitive to people who have a hard time driving and get into collisions because of them? Or because I really love thunderstorms I don't care about people who will suffer potential hail/tornado damage?
####in' hell the world is already a depressing place, let people enjoy their favourite weather.

Christ, I've had people literally freak out on me in this thread because I've been vocal about how much I love rain and snow, and hate being too hot.
Some people really are just miserable (Talking about those instances, not the people on this current page)
