Would not be nearly as exciting as Cocaine Bear....Fentanyl Bear would just lie on the floor with an irregular breathing pattern and then the whole movie would be disposing of his corpse. It would be a very sad movie.
I’m not saying safe supply is THE answer or is able to solve the problem by itself. But I think suggesting that the current situation without safe supply is somehow safer or better overall is just wrong.

This is the kind of Canadian content we need.

Lol! You've just got to cast it well!
Jacob Tremblay and Jack Black with an appearance from Kyle Gass, have to dispose of a Bear's corpse could be the next 'Weekend at Bernie's.'

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Isn’t this just common sense? If somebody wants to try ecstasy or cocaine, it’s objectively better that it’s not contaminated. I mean, you overdose from safe supply, but if your intent is just to have fun and get high, it seems like having a source of drugs that won’t kill you is better.

I don’t even know how much it says about anything, other than addicts flaunting the laws in public in an attempt to force the government to do something is right about where we are.
Addicts, even the ones trying to help others, can barely stay alive. They can’t even help themselves, but there are those of them who understand the problem and are sick enough of it to try to solve it themselves.
You ask how many new ones are created or how many are kept addicted long than they need to be, but against what alternative? Based on the prevalence of the issue, do you really think these drugs are hard to get and easier to get off without safe supply, as it stands currently?
If you really wanted to, you could go get any street drug you wanted to do, right now. And there would be no assurance that it isn’t laced with fentanyl, and zero effort from those you bought it from to curb your addiction in any way (the opposite, actually).

You have to choke off and minimize the overall supply. So the efforts and resources you are putting towards safe supply initiatives, you redirect to policing and enforcement against people selling the illegal stuff, and legitimate, maybe even compulsory treatment programs that are aimed at recovery, not ongoing use. BC has created an ecosystem of open and ongoing drug use, doesn't matter if its safe supply or illegal supply. I'm sure someone could potentially OD on so called safe supply as well. The problem here is that using hard drugs has essentially been completely accepted and almost normalized. The using itself needs to be deemed unacceptable.

Shooting at Market Mall over the weekend. Just googled the name and it shows a record amount of fentanyl recently. Maybe just a coincidence versus being free?
Unfortunately last night, one of my friend's and her friend we attacked on a DT C-Train platform by a bunch of homeless people around 10PM last night. Luckily someone intervened and police arrived almost right away. Other than a few scratches and bruises, thankfully they are physically fine. Mentally is another story, as she is very shaken up over this.
It's frustrating because she is a new arrival from Ukraine that came a few months ago and I spent a lot of time selling her on the city since it wasn't her first choice to come to Calgary, but ultimately her husband decided they should come here. Most of our initial conversations were telling her about why it was a good choice for them to come here, and it to give it time to get used to it. Thankfully she found a lot of success here soon after arriving and was starting to really like it here. I can't help but feel that this attack on her and her friend will undo a lot of that. Not that it matters, but her most recent social media post (in which she has quite a lot of followers, including in the city) doesn't paint the city in a good light. She lives DT and relies on transit to get around the city. Her life just got a whole lot more stressful after this assault.

####, sorry to hear this. Especially from somebody who themselves are trying to escape a war.
The ongoing issues are frustrating. Can't believe we have people (in this thread) still trying to belittle victims with stupid claims that people playing candy crush on Calgary Transit are more threatening.

I was almost certain you had a home and really, leave the commuters alone!

Time to start building bigger jails make some work for the locals and hire some security guards and throw these junkies behind bars and keep law abiding citizens safe

Naw. Let's just continue with the current policy of not providing enough housing to Canadians and then doing absolutely nothing when people end up on the streets and addicted to drugs. Because there are clearly no issues with the way things are working out right now. Just keep carting away the bodies and letting an ever increasing number of unhoused Canadians replace them.
Seriously though, there are a lot of alternatives you can take before you imprison all drug addicts. There's also a fine line between leniency and enabling.

Ya but none of them have that fairy tale intent.
I'm gonna ask them next time. "Oh are you just having a little fun buds, just a little lark with your buds, just a little whimsy, its not just a little respite from the absolute hell your entire being is in now, the feeling of being buried alive when you don't have it?". They are not having fun, they are trying to survive.
Obviously the safer supply is for the best, but not for that reason. Just having some fun and get high.

My statement was meant more that a safe supply benefits both the occasional recreational users and addicts, and it shouldn’t really invoke the “oh you are just enabling addicts” argument.
So sure maybe you could OD from a massive cocaine binge, but it wouldn’t be because a line you snorted had a milligram of fentanyl or weedkiller added in. Having a safe supply doesn’t hurt anyone.
Why would I care about someone wanting to play Russian roulette, either recreationally or out of habit? Either one blows their brains out… yeah that’s what happens. Sure not going to support funds going to a “safe handgun supply site” that guarantees the gun only has one chamber loaded, not three.
