I don’t know why we have to argue either end of the hyperbolic spectrum.

Not sure what the stats say this season. But happy with Vlad’s play at first, he’s pretty good with the scoops and short hops, and that’s what you want most from your first baseman. Between gold glove and terribad. So decent I’d say?

It’s weird to see him struggle so much at the plate after being so elite just a year or two prior.

Jays hitting coach is like Sigalet for Flames (when he was actually goalie coach). It doesn’t seem like they’re doing their job well, but the organization does not seem concerned at all.

No sorry no stats grade him as decent this year. Last year the most favorable stats showed him as okay but all in all the gold glove was undeserved. To me I’d rather have the other argument. That even with his struggles he is still a 115 WRC hitter and his underlying batting numbers like hard hit and such show that he’s had better process than results. It’s valid to say he’s been a bit unlucky. But there is no way you can parse his defensive numbers from all the sources this year and not call him one of the worst if not the worst defensive 1b in the sport.

Vlad's career trajectory is breaking my heart. I love the person and the player but he seems to be going the Bellinger route of really early success and then getting lost in the hoopla. I think he has way to many cooks in the kitchen, couple that with his internal pressures to be great, and he's just not having a good time anymore.

That's not entirely unfair based on thuis year and his career numbers... but frankly I don't think there is much in the way of surplus value at that number so even if I was ok paying him that I'd probably rather just tag him with a QO.

Vladdy physically developed ahead of his peers and was able to ride that without a lot of hard work. He has the tools but doesn't have the toolbox.

On the plus Bellinger is a beast this year . But playing for a different team

Vladdy D has been very bad this year but was good last year . Everything is in his head at the moment it seems like.

His hard hit ball % is deceiving because his hands are late when he gets the ball in the air so usually it’s hard on the ground soft in the air . When his hands arrive properly he hits line drive doubles and those equate to HRs when barreling the ball

But no one on the team can hit . The hitting coach has to go and yesterday to see if someone can fix Vlad . You can see he isn’t having fun during the games much this year

To put it in perspective Varsho has a 2.8 WAR and Vlad a 1.0.

Varsho has been worth almost 2 more wins then Vlad ….

Won’t QO be higher ? It was 19.5 last season . I imagine he instantly signs that

I guess you hope he declines and gets a big enough deal you get a comp pick ?

I would try to negotiate a multi year deal around 11 million with him in the offseason . If not I would pick up the option. It’s a weak batter FA year

Love that by Biggio. Take the GIDP out of the equation.

Vlad however comes from baseball royalty. It’s a good question if he even listens to advice from coaches. Remember the story earlier this year where his uncle came in to fix his swing? I think his dad being a guy famous for hitting everything also doesn’t help if he think he can follow daddies technique.

Damn Varsho. You do hit the ball hard when you're not sucking.

DeJong does not hit the ball hard when he's not sucking because he just sucks all the time.

Can we actually see what Bradley Zimmer is up to so that we can get DeJong the hell out of the lineup?

In Dejong's case, you must be pretty amazing defensively to have the manager keep putting a bat in your hand every game and a pretty much automatic out.

Paul DeJong is 3-43 with 18 K's and 0 BB's in his Blue Jays tenure. He would actually be way better if he just stood there with his bat on the shoulder.
