The Rangers might want to include D Ryan Lindgren in any trade proposal, as they will have trouble signing him after this season, and they already have a fairly good, and crowded, blueline already. Wouldn't be the end of the world, as Lindgren is an excellent puck-moving, defensive D with snarl and physicality, and he's only 25. He would make a good replacement for Tanev- the only problem is that he's American, and probably wouldn't want to sign here.
The other rumor out of Ranger land is that they are dangling D Zac Jones, a diminutive but offensively inclined blueliner, who is only 22.

I actually feel like Hanifin for Lafreniere straight up is fair.
I know he wasn’t offered, but who knows what was communicated too, as in it the Flames were asking for 2 high picks and a prospect or whatever you could see why Kappo and Laf would be left out. But straight up?

If Carolina's GM gives up Nikishin in a deal for Hanifin, he should be tarred, feathered, and whipped.

Haha! You’re the insider so I assume you’re right. I guess none of those prospects would be on the table from either team then. In that case, the returns will likely feel pretty underwhelming. Which I understand… the flames are in a tough spot to get the return for Hanifin they would normally get. It’s a tough year to trade players for picks/prospects when cap space is at a premium.

If Laf was on the table for Hanifin then that trade would be done. Exactly what Conroy wants to do and I doubt they’d get a better player than Laf.

Detroit wanted to bring back Suter on a one year deal. This from Kevin Allen who covers the red wings.
#LGRW# reporter @ByKevinAllen on Pius Suter:
"A great pickup...they [Detroit] wanted to give Suter a one-year deal...consistent, two-way player, coaches & teammates like him, PK, analytics are good...he could be a 20-goal scorer."
https://twitter.com/sekeresandprice/...7Ctwgr%5Etweet
So makes you wonder, Canucks sign Suter on Friday, they regroup on weekend and put an offer for Backlund today? Trying to read the tea leaves. Description of Suter fits Backlund to a tee. And he’s got a one year deal to boot. And red wings have the cap room.

Insider or not… you have more info on this than most others on this board so I think you’re probably right on those trade returns being too high.
As others have suggested, the flames might get some young NHLers instead of top prospects from teams like the rangers. Hopefully along with a first round pick.

If they are confident moving copp to the wing, Backlund would be a great fit in Detroit.

Seems very rich. I would actually be happy with an extended Hanifin for Jarvis.

Isn’t Carolina’s blue line already crowded enough? I feel like Backlund would be a better fit.

I would be ecstatic if Lafrenière came back for Hanifin but I doubt NYR could do it without some retention on our part.
Other moves would need to be done prior too but he would add an element that is missing from our top 6.

I know that the Rangers have been dangling Zac Jones for a couple years, back when JT Miller trade rumours from Vancouver were out there. Canucks wanted Schneider as part of it and the Rangers didn't want to give him up so they offered Jones. This was before Schneider was a mainstay with the Rangers.

I don’t see any chance that the Rangers would be Laf for a pending UFA. It kind of reminds me of Canuck fans thinking they were going to get Shane Wright for Horvat last year. Maybe if the Flames kicked in some prospects or futures they would have a shot but one for one teams just don’t trade 1st overall picks after their ELC for veterans on the last year of their deal.

It would only make sense if it was a sign and trade.
Noah is only 26 and will be a good player for likely the entirety of his next deal should he sign for 8 years. If it isn't a sign and trade I don't expect anything more than what we have seen in the past for defensemen like Noah (1st, roster player and B prospect)

If Hanifin was three years younger and had three years left on his deal, Hanifin for Lafrenirre makes sense.
I was listening to puck soup, I think it was, where they talked about Lafrenierre. His 5v5 numbers are about where you would expect. He got 0 PP tile under Gallant. It will be interesting to see how he does under Laviolette, if it’s more of the same, perhaps he is made available but it sounds like trading him is not in the Rangers plans at the moment. Maybe things change by the TDL…

Hanafin isn't even in his prime yet so his age should not be a factor in any trade discussion as he's at the perfect age to receive a long term deal as he should perform well throughout the entirety of the deal.

Haven't seen it mentioned ...
But Steinberg's Flames Talk show yesterday had him relieving some of my concerns over the Flames walking their players to free agency. Said in talking to Conroy he gets the feeling the players would be on the move to retain value regardless of position in the standings.
