My understanding is the appeal will be filed ASAP.

Seems like the right sentence, will it survive the appeals process? I expect there will be a new trial.

I haven't followed the details of the decision or the sentence, but the defense can't just say they don't like it. There needs to be legal reasons for the appeal or it will simply be dismissed.
I do recall something about a potential conflict with a juror. Was there anything else?

Maxine Waters comments is a big one. Even the judge said it would be a chance:

Not sequestering the jury and one juror lying on the questionnaire as well will be brought up. I recall, probably incorrectly, another juror saying they did feel pressure due to the chance of riots but I can't seem to find that.

Yeah there was an article with an interview by a jurer who talked about looking out the window and wondering what would happen if they returned the wrong verdict as it was their home town.
They'll definitely attack it based on juror bias, probably not being able to move the trial. Undue influence by the Governors statements to the press, and not sequestering the juror and not restricting their exposure to news and TV.
I don't know if a new trial will come up with a different result. I hope not, but you never know.

It doesn't even make sense. Like you either think he murdered a guy, in which case 4 years is laughably low. Or you think he didn't, in which case 4 years for what?

Mr. Floyd’s character is and should be irrelevant to whatever the sentence is.

Indeed. Although there are other things that should be irrelevant to the sentence that almost certainly influenced it. Inevitable given the profile of this case.

I am glad that I am not on the jury as I have gone back and fourth on how I feel about this. Then stir in the pressure that the jurors must have felt with respect to potential rioting.....yikes

So the cop should get a break because he was the product of a horrible law enforcement culture but black America who live in an abysmally racists bias culture making, for most, success impossible, well they should be locked up forever?

Its pretty simple. George Floyd, didn't have an exemplarary record. But that dosen't matter in context. The cop pretty much murdered his ass and acted as a judge jury and executioner, and that was what this trial about. The cops racial beliefs weren't really on trial here and didn't matter, nor does Floyds record. What does matter is that he leaned on the victims neck and the victim died in his custody. What makes it even more dispicable is that the police are there to protect.
Trying to tie George Floyd record to his death is just plain wrong.

Tou Thao, the last former Minneapolis police officer convicted in state court for his role in the killing of George Floyd, was sentenced Monday to four years and nine months.
Thao had testified that he merely served as a "human traffic cone" when he held back concerned bystanders who had gathered as former officer Derek Chauvin, who is white, knelt on Floyd's neck for nine-and-a-half minutes while the Black man pleaded for his life on May 25, 2020.
A bystander video captured Floyd's fading cries of "I can't breathe." Floyd's killing touched off protests worldwide and forced a national reckoning of police brutality and racism.
Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill found Thao guilty in May of aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter. In his 177-page ruling, Cahill said Thao's actions separated Chauvin and two other former officers from the crowd, including an emergency medical technician, allowing his colleagues to continue restraining Floyd and preventing bystanders from providing medical aid.

I’d prefer that he’d get a longer sentence but I’ll take this sentence plus losing his job. It’s funny how trash like this guy seem to find God in prison.
