NHL.com: Top 20 Centers
Quote:
20. Elias Lindholm, Calgary Flames
Lindholm had 64 points (22 goals, 42 assists) in 80 games last season, the fourth time in five seasons he's scored at least 20 goals. The 28-year-old led Calgary forwards in ice time per game (18:39), short-handed ice time per game (2:18) and was third in average power-play ice time (2:53). He won 55.7 percent of his face-offs, including the sixth most wins (857) in the NHL. Lindholm led Flames forwards in blocked shots (50), had 42 takeaways and was 10th in voting for the Selke Trophy, awarded annually to the best defensive forward.
"He's a 200-foot player," NHL Network analyst EJ Hradek said. "You can use him in all situations, he can kill penalties, he can obviously help you on the power play, you can use him late in periods, early in the game. You can use him everywhere and that's a big plus."

20th ranked C (after a down year) in a 32-team league, but according to a lot of people here, not a real #1C. I still have no clue who's supposed to take the reins if we actually move him. Maybe Jeff Shantz or Jason Wiemer are available?
Edit: 3 teams are represented twice on the list (EDM, PIT, NJD), which makes it a 17-team list... so 15 teams in this league don't have a C as good (or, at least, ranked as high) as our #1C.

These rankings mean nothing. Kadri was 13th or 14th last year on this exact same list.

Yeah, after the best season of his career. Lindy is 20th after his worst season since coming to Calgary. Kadri isn't even in the same universe as Lindholm.

The more propaganda that raises Lindholms stock is welcome in my book

Might have something to do with the 100 point pace and dominant playoffs that led to a cup

I'm pretty sure Lindholm was ranked ahead of Kadri last year too. I thought Lindholm was in the 13-14 area and Kadri was ranked around 20?

Add in Backlund to the who’s taking the reigns conversation. I’m hoping they can find a way to keep both of them around.

4th oldest center on the list. He should be able to hang on to a top 20-30 spot for another couple seasons.

He is a 1C in the NHL. So he's worth a decent contract.
I guess the question is whether he's a 1C on a legit contender. Or whether he'd be a good fit on a team that has a guy that is an elite 1C but could use a dominating second lien centre. In which case he's great trade material.

There's no question he's a valuable trade piece. My concern is right now we have a #1C. We won't if we move him, and it's very hard to get another one.

He is a second line center on a legit Cup contender. Can’t think of any legitimate Stanley Cup contenders where he would be their top center. A team that is a wild card team he can be a number one center for at least the next couple seasons.

He was #1C for a cup contender two seasons ago.

He is 20th on the list which seems about right. Whether he is 2nd line on a top contender (which I think is true) or a top line guy on a bubble team (which also can be true) doesn’t change his ranking or perception around the league in my opinion. I don’t think anyone has him as a true franchise type centre and most of the trade suggestions reflect that.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

The teams without a top-20 C, and their top centres by ice-time and points.
Anaheim - Trevor Zegras 18:50 / 65p
Arizona - Nick Shmaltz 19:43 / 58p
Boston - David Krejci 17:12 / Pavel Zacha 57p
Chicago - Tyler Johnson 16:34 / Andreas Athanasiou 40p
Columbus - Boone Jenner 20:12 / 45p
Minnesota - Joel Eriksson Ek 19:00 / 61p
Montreal - Nick Suziki 21:06 / 66p
Nashville - Matt Duchene 18:19 / 56p
NY Islanders - Bo Horvat 20:39 / Brock Nelson 75p
Philadelphia - Scott Laughton 18:17 / Morgan Frost 46p
San Jose - Tomas Hertl 19:17 / Logan Couture 67p
Seattle - Alex Wennberg 18:42 / Matty Beniers 57p
St. Louis - Robert Thomas 19:21 / Jordan Kyrou 73p
Washington - Evgeny Kuznetsov 18:04 / Dylan Strome 65p
Winnipeg - Mark Scheifele 20:29 / 68p
The only name on that list I'd consider swapping Lindholm for is Zegras.

The top 20-30 is debatable and Lindholm is definitely on that list
Is he a 1C on a contender? Sure if there are 3-4 better guys on that contender. He is not a top dog on a contender

Are you insinuating that we should....Bring Back Shantz?
