Who else was in the running for Karlson? Hanifin could be a good consolation prize.

I think Tre is going to make a deal for Hanifin and I'm a little worried given his prowess in trades...

The intel I have gotten is that the Leafs are not interested in Hanifin. The guy they would like to add from us is Tanev.

Look at the moves they made this offseason, most notably, Provorov and Babcock. Lindholm would all but certainly make them better right now. Not 2-3 years down the road when who knows what happens by then.
This is an organization that has missed the playoffs three years in a row now and has 6 playoff appearances in 22 years. Plus there also seems to be some smoke around JK and JD not having much run way left if things don’t change.
I know a lot of people like to think running a team is all about ‘asset management’ because apparently the only way to build a team is to stockpile draft picks and 19 year olds. Fact is teams also have to deal with expectations from ownership, fans, and even players. Gaudreau, Liane, Warenski etc. probably don’t have much tolerance for missing the playoffs for another 2-3 years.
Acquiring Lindholm, I think, would be very appealing to the Blue Jackets. He would be their 1C immediately and likely a top 2C for the next 6-7 years if they extended him. Given how difficult it has been for the BJ’s to attract and keep talent, I bet they leap at the chance to trade for Lindholm and pay the price to do so.
|
I'm sure they would love to get Lindholm but you and others are completely ignoring the acquisition cost and cap implications for them moving forward. That's the issue, obviously Lindholm would be a great get for them in vacuum. But signing him might also be a difference in a couple of years when they need to sign all their own young guys to big money deals.
Also I'm not sure why people are lumping Laine and Werenski together with Gaudreau who is 30 while Laine is 25 and Werenski just turned 26. This is an extremely young team still and their window isn't open yet.

Interesting, appreciate you sharing! I feel like Tanev is worth more to the Flames than what he would return in a trade...

Ya, this is just my pure speculation but I wonder about a blockbuster deal with them that sees both Lindholm and Hanifin going back there. There has been reported interest in both those guys. Then you have the rumours that the Canes are shopping Pesce, he has 1 year left before UFA and a 15 team trade NTC so that might not work for us. The guy I wonder about is Necas, I know he broke out last year but this guy asked for a trade last year and I have not heard anything that says he has since rescinded that.

Agreed, especially right now when everybody is playing the lowball game. I think you get more for Tanev at the deadline if the team is not a contender and if they are i believe he said he likes it here and is ok with doing short term contracts in his garbage bag day interview so you just re-sign him. No need to deal him now.

Tre just asked Conroy to call him if he decides to move Tanev/Z. So this sounds right. The initial price ask from Calgary was Liljegren.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Why take a hike? Tanev isn't sticking around after this year, has had a few injury riddled seasons and has a cap hit of $4.5m. Let Tre have him.

Getting Necas, 1st and a prospect for both of them would be cool. But I'm not sure what prospect or 3rd piece would be available

Noah...He isn't going to hand cuff the flames on the remaining year and will play anywhere not on his 8 team no trade. As previously mentioned, his camp does not need a extension in place - This limits his market.
Florida will need to rebuild their blueline after this season. Noah fits nicely into that as he wont cost an arm and leg. Doesn't hurt when he's great friends with Chucky.
