They could’ve really sold high on him. Not a good GM move.

Guys like Wilson don't age well. He's not fast, overly skilled and when he starts to get pushed around by kids 10 years younger he will become useless making $6.75. This is a Lucic deal IMO

Terrible deal. He can thank Tkachuk's style for that contract. Another dumb team giving out a long term deal to a role player at 29. I think Tom Wilson has 2 or 3 years before this is terrible.

Washington is an older & worse Pittsburgh.Legacy contracts for past years achievements at the expense of doing what the team should now.
Aside from watching Ovi go for the goal record, there's nothing good coming for the Caps.

Considering every team in the league would gladly have him. With his cap hit 1.6m more then Coleman? I'm sure they know it will end in LTIR. Roll him thru the incoming rebuild to protect young guys. Dont think theres much to see here

And here I thought Treliving was the only out his damned mind.
Its like we need an Actuary to be put in charge of an NHL team.

"Um yes, we dont offer long-term contracts to 29 year-olds, the data indicates that this is horribly unwise."

There is no debate. Kadri can be easily bought out in the last few years of his contract if needed.

Actually, players that rely upon strength sometimes can last quite long, as strength can remain for many years. Hossa and Jagr come to mind, although you'll never confuse Wilson with them. Wilson may fade, but it won't be because he's getting pushed around.

I've never seen a player with Wilson's style last, as a top player, beyond 34ish. Jagr had strength, but it made him hard to knock over while he was doing his thing. What kept Jagr going for so long was his extreme hockey sense and skill.

Wilson is more the type of player to try and knock Jagr over. If he's too slow to actually keep with the play, however, he's not going to be very helpful.

Wilson has more in common with Lucic than Jagr or Hossa.

It’s a brutal contract now!! What is Maclellan thinking??? They could’ve used some of that money to upgrade their D or bring in some youth, but just wasting the dollars and space Tom Wilson. The only hope for the Caps is that he does something dumb or dangerous enough to get a lifetime ban from the NHL.

Lets be fair, what kept Jagr going was that he was 1.5 players.

There was Jaromir Jagr and then there was Jaromir Jagr's ass which was almost an entire other player.

But nope they are doing it now.

Gotta keep Ovi upright until he breaks that record.

In a few years they’ll always be able to trade him to the Oilers for a good prospect and a 3rd.
