The more I think about it, the more I come around on the idea of zacha + lysell + a pick for lindy. Zacha could have offensive upside.

I'm not sure why, but that gives me the same feeling as Zacha + Hunter Shinkaruk for Lindholm...and I really don't like that.

I've actually suggested something like this, as i really like Zacha. Problem is, with the Bruins losing Bergeron, and potentially Kreijci, they won't want to give up another C in Zacha, as they are already depleted at this position.

If we did do that trade, could we replace Lysell (or the pick) with D Mason Lohrei? He's 22, 6'4", and just put up 32 points in 40 games for Ohio State....

Zacha could pop with a bigger role and is only 26, Lysell is far better than Shinkaruk, he's an incredible skater and playmaker and at 20 he quite possibly would become the Flames most dynamic prospect, I'd do that deal in a minute.

I’d be surprised if Zacha ever surpasses his point totals from last season. Where are you seeing even more upside?

He was a consistent 35 point guy before getting put on LW with Pastrnak (113 points).

If anything, he is a prime candidate for regression this season since he will likely have to move back to center.

Lysell is a fine prospect, but not a blue chipper. According to Bader’s model he has a 2% chance of becoming a star and a 47% of becoming an NHL player.

For reference Pelletier has a 3% of becoming a star and a 61% chance of becoming an NHL player.

And what pick? Are we supposed to wait until 2026 for a first or second round pick?

This trade doesn’t help the Flames compete now and really does bring much of anything back for the future either. You need to pick a lane.

Reality is the Bruins just aren’t a good trading partner for the Flames right now.

Agreed. I would wait until the trade deadline to see if we can do better, if this is what is out there right now. We can hardly do worse.

Interesting, maybe we are closer to moving a defenceman that thought

I wonder if Tanev would've been flipped if we got Gudas. Bet you Vancouver would have overpaid to grab him back. They already devalue Garland for no reason, I'd easily take back Garland and a 1st.

Unless there is a 3rd team involved, the Bruins do not make much sense to trade with. If there is any center that is going to go to Boston, it's likely Backlund. That is the only center they are able to afford. They went all in with Bertuzzi last season and now have less than the fingers one hand of assets to deal with. Unless they are willing to flip Ullmark to someone else and roll with Swayman/Vladar, then I don't really see CGY/BOS making a good trade without us getting boned and giving up quality.

Lysell was incredibly awful the WJC. He was a puck hog with tunnel vision that was constantly overhandling the puck. He's only 20, but it was very underwhelming for a kid with two professional seasons under his belt (one SHL season and one AHL season).

He seems like a B-tier prospect that is trending towards being Shinkaruk or Nikita Filatov rather than a top 6 forward in the NHL

Lohrei is interesting, but Boston's prospect pool is so thin that they just don't seem like a good trade partner for the Flames.

Zacha+lysell+2025 1st wpuld be extremely underwhelming return.
I guess that's essentially equal to the horvat trade, although the 1st being so far away really weakens the offer.

The canucks did get ASP with the 2023 1st.

If it's with Boston having the 1st a little further away is probably better - as they transition away from being a contending team.

Gudas not wanting to play in Canada was something that came up the last time that he hit free agency, so not surprised by this.

Glad he doesn't want to play in Canada dodged a bullet.

Disappointing to hear we tried to sign him with all the talk about getting younger and faster.

Why would anyone want a player who basically says I am trying to avoid pressure situations? I want the guy who thrives under pressure, not a guy who is uncomfortable with it.

Dealing with performing at a high level and game pressure is a lot different than dealing with stuff that gets to levels of obsession away from the rink

I’m glad to hear Conroy was interested in Gudas

Can you do imagine a bottom pairing of Zadarov and Gudas.
