Looks like the holy writ has come down on AEW on some of the more dangerous spots. Also certain spots have to now be approved by the medical teams and match coaches. I think this should have happened a while ago. But good on AEW.
document was sent out that specifically bans unprotected chair shots to the head, shots to the back of the head, Buckle Bombs, blind moves that go backwards into the turnbuckles, fencing responses (unnatural position of arms following a concussion), seizure sells, spitting, bleeding in the crowd, the use of weapons or projectiles in the crowd, taking drinks or food from people in the crowd, or any other physical contact with the crowd. It was noted that nothing with blood on it should be thrown into the crowd as well.
Quote:
he document also included a list of spots that is much more broad. These spots are still permitted, but must be approved by AEW’s medical team, as well as the coaches assigned to the match. It was noted that the list was not a comprehensive list, and could be adjusted by medical, legal and coaching staff. When approved, the moves are to be performed in accordance with safety protocols in place. Below is the verbatim list of moves that must be approved before they are used:
– Spots and bumps on the ring apron and outside
– Table/ladder/chair spots in and out of the ring (Only allowed with padding)
Any elevated spots outside of the barricades (dives and ladder spots on stage, around the arena, and other places outside of the ring)
– All piledriver/tombstone variations, including: sit down drivers, inverted/poison hurricanrana and vertebreakers
– High-risk dives or top rope moves (450, 630, double moonsaults, SSP, etc.) Intentional bleeding (of any sort, not just blading)
– Throwing people into/through/over ring steps, commentary table, bell table, or guardrails/barricades Weapon usage:
– Chairs, pipes, kendo sticks, hammers, ring bells, bats, chains, etc. Title belts
– Thumbtacks, skewers, barbed wire, and other sharp/puncturing objects o Powders, aerosol sprays, or liquids
– Throwing any weapons or objects- chairs, etc.
– Choking/strangling with hands or a weapon or hanging spots
– Injury spots or angles, whether or not medical is involved/called to the ring
– Any physicality in the crowd or crowd brawling
– Any physicality involving referees, managers, extras, celebrities, or special guests
The document states that providing the necessary parties with notice to plan “creative stunts and spots” is helpful so that they can plan for them to be done as safely as possible. AEW encouraged talents to speak to coaches, Talent Relations, the medical team or the legal team as early as possible for things that would require such planning.

The only one I kind of don't like is them not being allowed to take stuff out of fans' hands, etc. I get the safety aspect of it, but MJF throwing a drink in a little kid's face was great stuff, and one of my favourite parts of year 1 AEW was Hangman crushing beers that fans would give to him.
Also of note, it sounds like WB/Discovery are very happy with both Collision an Dynamite. I'm assuming the PVR and streaming numbers are much better than what the TV ratings are, but even with the TV ratings, they're consistently ranking in the top 10 of cable programming.
There are also rumblings that WB/Discovery want them to start doing monthly PPVs, which are probably overdue anyways. For instance, the Blood and Guts match next week should absolutely be a PPV bout, but they can't drag that storyline on any further.
I love me a slimmy heel. His baby face work isn't as good.
As a character he's fine, but much much better as a heel for sure.
It's his in-ring work that was probably overrated when he was in his prime, and is now pretty sloppy to bad in his advanced age with years of rust IMO.
To me it felt like he was outright refusing to take some bumps on Sunday night too. His bump on the spear was super poor. And he really didn't want to take that Tornado DDT from Ricky Starks and both times he really botched the sell when they tried it.

Honestly I just don't want to see anything jericho for a while.
I also don't know what they're going to do with the woman's division. But Britt Baker needs to come off of the road for a while. She's just gone to crap.

"Exotic" Adrian Street died today at 82. He was a Territory vet and thus never a huge star (his time at Stampede was a little before my time), but an influential character and apparently tough as nails.
Anyone watch the Bash at the Beach 2000 DSOTR tonight? The whole situation was cringe. Forgot how much Hogan/Bischoff ran that company into the ground, despite Russo's touch of death. Creative control is poison for a wrestling company with too many top guys. I see shades of it in CM Punk sometimes.
Also, what stories might be good for season 5? I'm thinking the following could make for some good material ...
Scott Hall
Wrestler's Court
The "Me Too" movement in wrestling
Neck injuries (Austin, Buff, Angle, etc.)
Racial Gimmicks (and their fallout)
Yakuza involvement with wrestling
Average mortality rates of pro wrestlers
Stiff shots: Hardcore Holly, Bradshaw and other bullies
And I'd also be interested to see an episode on wrestler's that don't know when to pack it in and hurt the business.

Last weeks episode about Bam Bam was outright depressing. He came across as a really good guy, who really loved being a father, but addiction just killed him, and he made a lot of bad decisions.
The whole season has been really good.
Part of me thinks that they do need to do a whole Sunny Story.
The stiff guys aren't darkside, but Holly was really into hurting people, so was Bradshaw, Add on the Steiners who had what Mick Foley said was a fetish about dropping wrestlers on their head. You could class it as the most hated guys in the business.
I doubt they'll do a racial gimmick, the show creators I feel like wouldn't want to go after Piper.
I like the me too in wrestling idea.
I don't know if they've done one on Buck Zumkoft or however you spelt his name. But he was a mid card scum bag who went to prison for a long time for raping his daughter, and people knew back stage that he was a sicko. You'd have to add on Velveteen dream.
How about the Renegade? Bought in to play the warriors double, ended up eating a shotgun because the business pretty much abandoned him after they used him up in the gimmick.
They really haven't touched on real old time stories. I think Georgeous George needs an episode.
A episode on Vince destroying the territories, would actually be really interesting.
Not maybe Darkside but it needs to be told, but I would love to see an episode on Cowboy Bill Watts, who went from a genius running UWF, to pretty much booking WCW into oblivion while also pissing off Hank Aaron. The question was always, was the man who made the first black champion a racist, or just too old school?

Here's the thing with Hogan and its funny. You ask the people that made money off of Hogan, like Vince (he keeps bringing him back), Bisch. His buddies that continually got jobs from him even though they were the ####s (Beefcake, The nasty Boys, the Honky Tonk Man etc) they love him. You ask a lot of other high end workers in the business and they'll call him the biggest piece of #### backstabber of all time.
He's pretty much the Ty Cobb of Wrestling. Hogan could be a dark side episode on his own.
The politics, his son's crash and prison term. The fact that he married a girl that not only was the same age as his daughter but looked like her. The path of destruction that he left on peoples careers. His role in the Vince Steroid trial and how he was going to backstab Vince.
I never liked Hogan as a wrestler. I got bad vibes off of the guy when I met him in Winnipeg and ended up at a hotel room party with Him, Savage, Beefcake and Mean Gene. (BTW Savage was actually very cool to me) BTW this is what happens when you hammer on a hotel room door at 3 in the morning to tell people to keep the fracking noise down, and the door opens and your looking Hogan in the nipple.
