To be fair he said " Hopefully he can score 50 playing with me"...then they never really played together.

I don't know where to put this rant, but this seems like as good of a place as any. I was watching Kipper videos and remembering how bloody good he was, and now...
Deeeeeeep breath.
This organization had Iginla and Kipper for nine friggin seasons (not counting the lockout year). Nine! Nine seasons of a top three in the world(!) player and goalie, and we only made the playoffs five times. Won three rounds the first time and didn't win a single round the next four times. Three playoff round wins in nine seasons, and they were all in the first season! So when people wonder why some of us are in "I'll believe it when I see it" mode 90% of the time here, it's becuase of garbage like that.
Then of course, we trade Iggy for a bag of pucks. Man oh man. Don't even get me started on how the only friggin thing we seem to be good at is getting absolutely nothing for our star players (Gilmour, Vernon, Savard, Iggy, Gaudreau and others I'm sure I've forgotten.)
Kipper retired, and the jury's still out on the Tkachuk return. Nieuwendyk we almost bunged up for Todd Harvey instead of Iggy. Theo was traded for Reggie, and we all love Reggie... but Theo at the time should have gotten us much more than that. Oh wait, we also got Rene Corbet and Wade Belak. Whew! Good thing we got that LW with 58 career goals and a useless D that played 80 whole games for us over three seasons and went on to get 30 points in 500 games. We traded a 500g 1000pt superstar in the prime of his career for a stay at home defenceman (who I loved, btw) and the nine goals that Corbet scored in the 60 games he played here. (Belak had 0).
Anyway... I'm all ranted out now. Sorry to anyone who actually read it...

I have a feeling he's going to suck again...I can't shake this feeling that the flames are going to be bad for the duration of his contract.

Guy is a stud. I think him and Markstrom have huge bounce back seasons and we make the playoffs. Just my opinion and the 4 pints I just threw back.
All honestly though I like this guys demeanour.
This season and our ability to be competitive relies 100% on Lindholm being on the roster. If we have him I think we are a legit playoff team… without him it’s time to rebuild.

Well, in fairness, Huberdeau is an actual superstar. Nurse has never been anything more than a 3-4D on a decent team (ie: not EDM). Like, at least Huby has something to bounce back to. Nure is just Nurse lol.

Beautiful course with 2 completely different 18's (Carolina and Arizona). Was privilieged to play them when course was still public in the mid 90's.
10 minutes from my house.
Too bad I did not know about the interview as I would have gone and tried to speak with him and tell him all about CP and how we are all pulling for him and the team ( except for a few. You guys know who you are)
It was later bought by Celine Dion and became private. She sold it in 2017.
Vas-y Huby, t'es le meilleur!

He’s not getting traded. Especially if he performs well.

First Kadri mentions the stress of moving cities and a new home as being a reason for last season's whiff. Now Huberdeau alludes to it too.
It kind of sounds like an excuse and strange they both mention it, but moving is totally upsetting. At the money involved here, can't the teams and agents do a better job of getting players and families settled?

Kadri at least got to pick where he was going. Huberdeau was blindsided. I agree though, there must be some improvements the Flames can make to the onboarding process.

Flames are limited in what they can do to some extent by the CBA.
But those comments just sound like a euphemism for relocating into a toxic dressing room

With Sutter gone and a fresh start for management, coaching, a youth injection and vets with more defined roles, hopefully we'll see a big resurgence of star power from JH. Obviously Markstrom is the clear #1 priority to rebound, but JH is definitely right after.
The team will still be in tough to make the playoffs IMO, but a Huberdeau who is at the very least PPG should go a long way to achieving that goal.

I think the track record of players being traded and/or signing and having at least serviceable seasons the following year is long enough to conclude that this is not a Flames issue and is almost entirely a player issue. Struggles adapting should be expected, but not to the point where it derails an entire season.
Were there issues with the coaching and room last year? Of course. But it certainly shouldn't excuse or be a driving reason for having a season that is nowhere near expectation from a point perspective and from a general play perspective for large quantities of the season.
I struggle to take these comments from the player at more than face value. But certainly hope that he is genuine and can turn it around before the contract looks like one of the worst in the league. The Flames can't have the Huberdeau or Kadri contracts dragging them down for the next 7 ish years.

You have to remember that the Gilmour, Vernon, Nieuwendyk and Fleury trades were done out of necessity to shed salary. The team could not afford to trade those guys for comparable players making comparable—or even close to comparable—money. And all those players wanted out too, putting the GM at a disadvantage when negotiating trades.

He had to leave Miami for Calgary. Most wouldn't be thrilled. Then he has to play for Daryl. Guy was probably depressed. Then he has to watch his old team go the Stanley Cup finals and the player he was traded for is playing like the best player on Earth. Can't get much worse. He should have a fresh start this year.
