Except right now, it’s out with the old and in with the old.

Understand it is late July and things can still happen, but every day without a deal, one day closer to bringing back the same old same old. Understand you need a willing partner but where is the news on zadorov/tanev/Kylington? Can’t be paralyzed while you wait for a decision from lindholm but it appears to be that’s where we are at.

Hope Boston was waiting on Bergeron to decide on retirement before getting serious about replacing him. Let’s hope they step up with a big offer that conroy can’t say no to.

I'm not sure there is any interest in Tanev until trade deadline and that's if he is healthy. Zadorov isn't some huge piece. Kylington shouldn't be part of the discussion until trade deadline depending on how he makes out this year. He very well could be part of the future. Lucic is gone. Lewis is gone. Word is no real PTOs coming in. Young guys will get a chance. This sounds way better than last season. Hopefully Huska has a clue and won't put up with bull####.

I would take an extension announcement for big Z over the crickets you hear right now. If he’s part of the plan going forward (and I hope so), let’s get him under contract. Started with 7 ufas, we are down to 6. If we can get it down to 5, all the more better.

I think Zadorov has more value then you think. A guy that is defensively sound, throws bone crushing hits, while potting 14 goals. Every GM wants that guy.

And not overpaid for what he brings.

Does this mean Markstrom => out? I sure hope it means that and not Wolf = AHL.

edit: "out" as in moved, not injury

I expect Wolf will be in the AHL again. I know people say he has nothing left to prove there and maybe that's true but what he will get there is a lot of starts and playing time. That imo is better than getting a handful of games backing up Markstrom.

With the farm team in Calgary, they should try to call him up for some games. That was the disappointing thing last year with the farm team being in the same city. They should have taken advantage of that more.

Not figuring out the goalie thing is a bit of a #### up this off-season. So dumb.

It was far beyond disappointing - it was an epic failure. The amount of games Markstrom got to 'find' his game was likely worth 10 or 20 points, which is a playoff position.

Because Wolf is waiver-exempt, he can transfer between Calgary and Calgary as many times as they want this season. I suspect the plan right now is for Markstrom to start about 45 games, Wolf 25, and Vladar about a dozen.

This allows Wolf to get another 25 or so in the AHL, rather than just sitting on the bench for half the season.

Of course, all it takes is for one goalie somewhere in the league to go down with a long-term injury and suddenly a trade partner for Vladar has opened up (or, depending on the goalie who gets hurt, possibly a trade partner for Markstrom).

I think they will let the goalies battle it out in camp. If Wolf is the clear winner, I think they will move one of the other two, even if that means waivers for Vladar. I don't think they will hold back an opportunity to Wolf if he shows he is the best goalie in camp. If it is a tie between Wolf and Vladar, Vladar likely stays up while they continue to try and move him.

I think a lot of teams are going to wait to see how their camps and the first few weeks of the season go , at which point, the market for Vladar could pick up.

How many goalies moved by trade this offseason? Cal Pettersen?

What’s ‘dumb’ about this situation? Wolf is waiver exempt. What would have been the ‘smart’ move in your mind?

What hasn't been figured out?

Notwithstanding the fact that the offseason isn't near over, I don't understand what you want to see done. It's common to go into camp with 3 goalies who could start in the NHL. What are the Flames are doing that is different than any other team?
Vegas had how many goalies last year? Worked out ok for them.

But if we assume the Tweet is accurate and Vladar is back, doesn't that mean the Flames have figured it out? They decided that Markstrom will be the starter and Vladar will be the backup. Maybe you mean to say that it's dumb that they came to a decision that doesn't align to what you think is the right decision?

There was nothing to figure out

Markstrom has negative value, it would cost a bundle to get rid of him

And the Flames are not going to give away Vladar for nothing

This.
Wolf can play as much as they want him to and then have him walk down the hall and play with the Wranglers and not get rust.

A unique situation and one the Flames should take advantage of to acclimatize a young goalie into the NHL.

Let some team come calling and pay a ransom for Vladar (Leafs - though the way Vladar played, not sure Treliving wants him)

I've come around to the idea of Wolfe playing for the Wranglers and our regular duo with the big club to start the season.

In saying that, I really hope to see Wolfe up for at least 15 games and if he looks good and there's a good trade to be made at the deadline for either Markstrom or Vladar that Conroy pulls the trigger.
