His play reminds a lot of Ferland when he broke into the league. Physical, good hands and great speed… bonus that Frederic was developed as a centre. Probably tops out as a 3rd/4th line guy but definitely one of the rare fourth line guys who can heavily impact a game. He’s 25 years old so he’s going into his prime which makes a great time to get a player like him as they tend to have short shelf lives due to their physical play. The flames could definitely use what he brings.
It might seem underwhelming but the rumoured offers are not so great so I could something like:
To Boston:
Lindholm (50% retained this year; signs extension with boston)
To Calgary:
Frederic
Lysell
2025 2nd round pick
2025/2026 1st round pick (depending on what happens this year with their 2024 pick that is set to go to Detroit unless it’s a top 10 pick - in which case, it becomes a 2025 first round pick to Detroit)

Even a bad Boston team will have more players wanting to go there over a team like Calgary or the peg. They could also rebuild even if they don’t have firsts for a couple years.

There’s slim picking for UFA centers at this point. And it’s hard to imagine the team that just won the President’s trophy starting next season with Zacha and Coyle as their top 2 centers. I expect they’ll take a swing at Schiefele. Swayman + Lysell could get it done. Backlund would be a cheaper plan B.

Hahaha, I could only imagine the reactions around here if we gave Tkachuk 12M a season and he followed it up with 43 points in 56 games in 2020-21 (62 point pace). Huberdeau hasn't even underperformed his deal to this point and he sports the worst contract in the league to some of you.

I think Hanifin to Buffalo still makes the most sense.
He would really improve their d-corps.
For return, I'd like Tuch and a draft pick.

Aside from their kids (Power, Dahlin, Cozens, etc) Tuch may be the most untouchable for them.

No chance they give up Tuch. He has been fantastic for them and is a local guy he is part of the long term plan there.
I still think the piece to target from Buffalo would be Krebs which could give the Flames more freedom to trade Lindholm or Backlund by slotting in a bottom 6 center with upside.

I don't think you're reading your own posts at all. How does this show the fickleness of fans?
If anything, it shows stronger fanhood. I was willing to overspend on Tkachuk after his 1st 100 point season but the team didn't seem to be. I'm not yet a fan of Huberdeau, he was the centre piece in the biggest trade in flames history, signed the biggest contract in club history, came in for his 1st season and dramatically underperformed. It is hard to become a fan of a player in that situation. It's acceptable not to be a big unyielding fan of this player at this point.
Has he underperformed his current contract? Not yet I suppose. But you still don't understand the point of the article, clearly. It's trying to project this coming season, where he will be playing under the 10.5 mil contract. Dom's stats show that he's unlikely to make that contract worthwhile based on his current trajectory. I have to agree, but not based on trajectory, based on the players around him. I don't think we have the horses to get a perimeter, primarily distribution based player who doesnt really drive transition or offense on his own, to 83 points over a season. Happy to eat crow if it happens, but realistically I just don't see a way.
I like Huberdeau the person, and think he's an interesting player.
Essentially your argument is that preferring a player who was drafted and played through several seasons of adversity with the club, to a new player who's played here one season and underperformed makes people fickle fans. It's total nonsense.

After his first 100 point season?
Um, he told the Flames he wouldn't sign after that. They would have given him 10.5+ and everyone knew it.

Tkachuk was not willing to sign here after his 100 point season, though. Are you just forgetting that he requested a trade? The only time to sign him long term was after the 2018-19 season.
You can't tell me that Tkachuk wouldn't have been run out of town and or heavily criticized by this market if he was making 10M+ a year and played the way that he did in 2020-21. Not being able to look past circumstance, player deployment, personal changes, etc.. and basing an opinion off solely one season is what can make fans fickle. Players can have bad seasons and turn it around. We see it every single season.
I am not making this a Tkachuk vs Huberdeau thing. I prefer Tkachuk as well but he didn't want to be here.

Nah, the flames had a cap. If we offer him 12 m/year I think he's still here. That's $20 million more than his current contract.

Nope. If Tkachuk was truly interested in staying at that price he would have negotiated that deal and not told the Flames he wouldn’t sign.
i think the Flames had a shot to get him on a 6 year deal in 2019 but couldn’t dump Brodie, Frolik or whoever’s salary they needed to cut to have the space to give him the $9M it likely would have took to get him to agree to 6 years.
Tkachuk said when he talked to teams during the free agent period he knew it was time to move on. I think we all knew what happened last summer was the likely outcome. Tkachuk got the market he wanted and signed a team friendly deal to get there. The low taxes, and weather were likely key to him accepting less and they were the reigning Presidents Trophy winners with Barkov, Reinhart, Bennett, Ekblad etc all being around the same age as Chucky. Based on the results of year 1 he made the right call.

Tuch PLUS a pick?!! Buffalo wouldn't ship Tuch to us without a pick if we added to Hanifin, lol.

I believe he said if he could go back in time, so Tkachuk’s recent season is in the books at this stage.

A lot of Lindholm Boston smoke. Hopefully there's a 3rd team involved so we can actually get some decent prospects/picks in return.

What's your definition of smoke?
There are a lot of pieces saying it makes sense for both teams.
https://dailyhive.com/calgary/flames...lindholm-trade
edit: Also articles on the hockey news, the hockey writers, nhltraderumours, etc... (not to mention in Boston and Calgary). To me that's 'smoke'.

You do realize if the we ended up with picks/prospects Conroy would just flip them for another top 6 C right? I don't think a lot of the rebuild crowd has grasped the reality yet that this team intends to try and compete now. They will either re-sign Lindholm or trade him in a hockey deal where they add another top 6 C, even if they have to add to make it work.

Kind of why I wonder how much validity there was to the San Jose rumor from the draft. if he can't sign Lindholm does he go back in that direction?

As long as the term of the contract is short the Flames probably do alright in that scenario.
