I don't recall the specifics of what happened there. But to me this is a pretty definitive retirement. He's done. If he comes back, he's a free agent.

Kovalchuk was the first time this happened. I had him, he retired and when he came back I got first right of refusal for him.

But that was old rules, 2 years removed from NHL or whatever it was.
