Other than just general size and composition of hail of course.

I've always kind of thought its when you get caught on the road in a hail storm, because you're combining the momentum of your vehicle with the momentum of the hail?

Today I got caught in it, I pulled into a parking lot just to stop moving and let the storm pass, there was no cover but I've never seen my car get pelted like that before, that storm was wild.

After it passed I went and inspected it and there was nary a dent. Survived it perfectly fine.

Meanwhile I saw people protecting their cars and trucks with blankets and tarps and sleeping bags while my vehicle didnt even get a scratch wide out in the open in a parking lot.

So...people who have experienced Hail Damage...whats the scoop?

Are you sure there's nothing? One car I was selling, it looked like there were maybe half a dozen dents at most, mainly on the chrome trim. Then with a light and a striped screen, you could see the thing was mottled with hundreds if not not thousands of tiny dents. You had to look at it at special angles in the sunlight to see the dents. Due to the color of the car, it kinda looked like turkey skin. I only found out when my mechanic told me he thought he saw around 50-100 vs half a dozen and told me to get it checked by a pro.

I knew which day the hail happened. The insurance adjuster was annoyed I put in my claim months after the actual hail. But when they sent the appraiser to took at it, the appraiser agreed the damage was strangely unassuming. He agreed he had to use the methods the hail specialists used to see the actual damage on the car and explained to the adjust it was valid I assumed only half a dozen tiny dents vs the hundreds/thousands on the vehicle.

I'm pretty sure damage like that starts at around dime to nickel sized hail. I'm not too sure why some cars soak up damage and others basically brush it off as if nothing happened. I heard someone say that darker color vehicles get hotter in the sun, so it allows many of the dents to pop out naturally. But I don't know if that's true or BS.

That might make sense, my wife's car had a door ding I was cleaning up. I was able to get the paint off with some tooth paste rubbing, then I needed to wash that off. I had a container of hot water I decided to toss at it out of laziness, and the dent popped right out. Success!

Yeah people are wired so differently. I mean this is the same thread where some people's ideal temperature seems to be -20 with blowing snow. If that's believable, surely some genuinely enjoying temps in the high 30s is too. My scrawny, always cold self is with you on that one.

Summer Vegas midday heat can be intense, but by late afternoon / early evening it's glorious. I frankly found the freezing, blasting AC Vegas hotel rooms & casino area more challenging than the outside temps last September.

Haha yeah maybe not quite THAT bad....I just recall some harrowing drives in brutal weather in winter, then seeing some posts in here how this is perfect. Felt like strangling them lol. I like this time of year when they're the ones hating the weather now

I'm in that camp. Heat is miserable, although the past couple of evenings have been pretty nice, TBH. But, like, a 30° day (alt+0176 to make that degree symbol, btw) is miserable for me. I finally bought a Makita battery-powered fan last week so I can have a breeze on me outside on my patio. Just hate the hot so fricken much.

Driving in giant piles of fresh snow is super fun, but that really isn’t about temperature preference.

Now that I have become one of the washed and enjoy year-round indoor temperature control I really don’t care what the temperature outside is and the 30 degree days are actually enjoyable.

What I’ve learned is that hating any kind of typical temperature range, from -30 to +30 or whatever, is a poor person problem. Money solves all.

I have one of those fans. They're great portable fans.

Just be careful of using them in sun shelters on hot days. You can accidentally accelerate heat stroke using them if you're not staying hydrated. (Ie: napping)

I picked up one of those battery powered misting fans that sits on a five gallon pail of water a couple summers ago. It does a great job of dropping the temperature on the patio a few degrees.

My Westjet flight to Edinburgh tonight got hit by lightning and now we are back in calgary after 2.5 hours in the air. Been waiting an hour on the stand and still don’t know if we will be leaving again tonight. Fun times.
