UFA Batch 1 Results
First some stats
26 teams made offers
78 total offers made totalling nearly $300M in contract value.
Teams have 24 hours to lodge an appeal (via PM to me) if they think they had a better offer that should have won. It is very easy to make mistakes in this and usually there are 1 or 2 corrections.
Here are the results:
Anze Kopitar
4 offers
Winning bid: Washington – 3*9.99*1 way = $29.97
Alex Ovechkin
5 offers
Winning bid: Washington – 3*9.99*1way=$29.97
Patrice Bergeron
1 offers
Winning bid: Nashville – 3*2*1=6.0
Zach Hyman
4 offers
Winning bid: Minny - 3*9.51*1=$28.53
Logan Couture
5 offers
Winning bid: St. Louis 3*5.57*1=16.71
Evander Kane
7 offers
Winning bid: Detroit 3*5.65*1=16.95
Boone Jenner
6 offers
Winning bid: Buffalo 3*4.78*1=14.34
Roman Josi
3 offers
Winning bid: Anaheim 3*9.99*1=29.97
Brent Burns
3 offers
Winning bid: Detroit 3*5.22*1=15.66
Hampus Lindholm
7 offers
Winning bid: Ottawa 3*7*1=21
*Note Ottawa and Washington had identical offers, however, the player goes to the Sens as Ottawa was lower in the standings which is the tie-breaker
Mike Matheson
4 bids
Winning bid: Montreal 3*4.5*1=13.5
Jared Spurgeon
6 offers
Winning bid: Edmonton 3*4.12*1=12.36
Brady Skjei
3 offers
Winning bid: NJD 3*2.24*1=6.72
Darcy Kuemper
5 offers
Winning bid: Flames 3*4.01*1=12.03
Sergei Bobrovsky
9 offers (most in the round)
winning bid: St. Louis 3*5.27*1=15.81
Jacob Markstrom
6 offers
winning bid: Washington 3*5.03*1=15.09

Batch 2 will go up this weekend once the 24 hour appeal window has passed and I process the above.

The Bergeron contract is interesting,
Wonder if he will retire or sign another 1 year deal.

Help, save, whatever.

Whoa! Feel lucky to get two of my guys. I thought we put in a very generous offer to Kopitar but ended up being not even close. Happy to bring Kane and Burns back though.

I had no horses in this batch.
Some of these bids make me really miss the buyout penalty for retiring players. I feel like the gamble made it much more strategic before.
The results are missing my favorite though...can we see how much more the winners paid than the 2nd highest bids?

Player I really wanted was Kuemper, and didn't go in nearly hard enough. 650K off.
I had too many holes to fill on my roster to really have a shot at most of these guys. I've always like Spurgeon, and just missed that one, too.

it was interesting to me that teams made moves, like waivers, in advance to free up cash. That increased the value of offers that were sent in over the final 48 hours. New dynamic.

The Leafs felt they had competitive offers in on a few guys. The Leafs were wrong.

Yeesh ... some real stinkers in this batch. Glad I kept my cap space for batch 2.

Went big after the top free agent in the class and happy to land Josi. He's still relatively young at 33 and still very productive, so his value should hold. Immediately takes the role of #1 dman on the Ducks.
Lots more cash out there this year, but also the strongest Batch 1 I've seen in a long time, so not surprised by some higher priced contracts.
I think due to the strong batch, there were the additional attempts to clear cap like waiving guys. Waiving Zadorov was not in the plans, but a strong Batch gave me more room to take a swing on a few top guys.

I figured the bids would be very high given the amount of cap space around the league as well as the quality of players. Happy to add Kuemper at this rate as he is tied for the 9th highest rated goalie in the sim. He also has been very strong in the sim the last few years so hoping he brings that to our organization.
Good value in the Matheson and potentially Bergeron contracts.
Grant went big on Hyman, was there a typo in that amount?

Nope. I wanted to upgrade my top 6 and had the cap space.
As long as he keeps playing with McDavid or Leo he will continue to be produce
But yeah there is some risk there for sure.
