Well he couldn't possibly learned that behavior in North America could he?
Sounds like we've already determined this is a direct result of him having a Russian sounding name.

I have to admit, I wasn't expecting an actual, sincere apology that reads like it was written by an actual person who knows they eff'd up big and genuinely wants to own it and make amends. Everybody says stupid stuff sometimes; sometimes really, really stupid stuff. This kind of response makes it a lot easier to have a measure of empathy.

Yup. I really appreciated his approach to come from the heart and not so much protected language written by a lawyer.

Reading the ESPN Article -- if it is true that he received bad advice about his wife's VISA and that they haven't been able to live together for a year, then I really do sympathize with him if he's truly sorry for what he did. I have a coworker whose wife was sent back to South America due to VISA issues and he is way more cranky because of the stresses.

Spain and Spanish football fans have made news recently for racism towards blacks, namely Vinicius.
I don't recall recent stories out of the countries listed, but I haven't been paying attention.

I haven't lived anywhere else, and I'm not a minority, so who knows, but all anecdotal experience I have hanging out in Europe or having friends that live there ... we are doing way better on that front.
Most places are very monocultural, and there's in general less empathy toward other races/ethnicities it seems. Coming back to Canada, it's always "oh yeah.. not everyone is white" as soon as you land.

In fairness, his agent and publicist did a great job in writing that apology letter.

Well, I definitely didn't expect to hear him say he planned to make a bolognese sauce out of the cops' livers.

There's something zen about watching cops exercise self control when they're treated like that. We see a lot of "bad cop" videos, but if we see more like that, we all might get better at letting the insults roll off our backs.

Sad stuff. That was definitely worse than I’d thought it would be. He’s got some major issues and needs some serious help. Normal people don’t say the stuff he says.

Well the major difference in most of the instances of police brutality involve someone of a different race...
