Gotta love proposals where they treat the Flames like submissive doormats.

They come up frequently.

Flames apparently are chomping at the bit to sewer their future and give other teams a leg up/way out of their problems. It's like reverse oiler trade proposals.

Jibber jabber or not, I'm not really clear on what you're saying.

I think we really need to temper our expectations when it comes to any trade involving Backlund- I don’t think we’ll get much for him unfortunately. We better get some nice pieces for Hanifin and Lindholm, though.

No I wouldn't.

Is this really where we are people making up fan fiction about fake stories that other posters wouldn't ever say?

I'll take the Glencross return (2nd + 3rd) at the deadline after he tears it up in the first half.

Personally I would rather Couture at 8Mx4 and Eklund than Lindholm at 9mx8, a big plus is his contract is very manageable, if he falters in two years at 36 his buyout is cheap.

William Eklund would instantly be this teams best young forward, the kid has crazy skill and compete level

I think Backlund's peak trade value will be as a rental at the trade deadline when they can see whether he is having a strong season or not. I doubt a lot of teams would want him for a full season and would wait to see where they stand when the playoffs are approaching and they have accrued cap space. Right now, with his age and cap hit, there is just too much risk.

How does that value work? I feel like they just forgot there's 2 teams in a trade. How about Couture and Eklund for nothing, then if you also want Lindholm and Vladar you can put together another package.

Yeah, that scenario could very easily have led to the sharks dumping a contract and getting a better prospect than Eklund (amongst other bits) as well.

Eklund is a really good asset though. Like top line potential asset. I don't think I'd have done the proposed trade for Lindholm and Vladar but I'd use it as a foundation for a bigger deal.

I really like Eklund and the idea of him on the Flames IMO.

Eklund is definitely a good start, but saddled to Couture drops the value significantly, that deal done is so 1 sided in SJs favor it’s laughable. His contract alone is a buyout candidate at this rate based on what we’ve seen this year.

They essentially get a ton of cap savings for Eklund.
Definitely not worth if that’s the deal alone, but I’d like to get Eklund in a better deal, the kid is going to be good.

Non Flames related:

Talked to my first sergeant who went on a cruise, said he saw Heinen there (he’s a Pens fan so he recognized him), and Heinen did confirm that he is not in the Pens’ future plans.

And, it is true they were, or still are, in contact with the Sharks for Karlsson in a three-way deal.

People are undervalueing Couture massively here. The contract isn't great, but he outscored any centre on our team while playing top line pp and pk roles. Plug and play captain that turns it up in the playoffs and a legit 1B centre... This is not the profile of a player that requires a top prospect in order to dump them. This is not Lucic.

Think of the trade this way:

Lindholm and Vladar for Eklund

Couture makes the cap work.

I think if SJ adds a second rounder OR retains a million, it is a good trade.

Still sounds like a lot coming from Calgary. Why wouldn't we just sign Lindholm to roughly the same $ amount for a younger player and one who is already familiar playing here? Couture is alright, but age only goes up.

Because he may not sign here and this way we get a top prospect for a retool without making our team that much worse.

It actually may make the team better in the immediate term and long term, depending on if/when Eklund turns into a good top 6 option.

Yeah, even not being a big Couture fan I don't think this is that bad. Big fear of signing Lindholm is that its 8 years at almost $9M. If he doesn't sign the fear is no 1C. This kind of covers both bases. A 1C for a few years and if it's that bad it's half the term and you get a top tier prospect and a path for Wolf to start more games at the NHL level.

I'd still want a bit more from SJ. Another pick perhaps.

Highly doubtful that Calgary would be on the list of 3 teams he’d accept a trade to, so likely not happening in any event.

Not sure about this. Stay in SJ and go through a rebuild or come to Calgary and play meaningful games.

I think this is a red herring. Why would SJ trade their top prospect who is on the cusp of making the show for a package that would set their rebuild timeline back further. Don’t buy it.
