We're camping (like we do almost every weekend), SE of Sundre. Had a big noisy storm move through around 7 - almost constant big rolling thunder booms, fair amount of lightning and an incredible dump of rain, no hail.

Round 2 just started about 15 minutes ago. Slightly less of everything except for the rain. That's another insane amount coming down.

Hail is so awful. We got wiped out in 2014, by hail. When it comes to storms, outside of a tornado developing, the big hailstorms make me anxious. It took about 6 months after that 2014 storm, to feel safe in the house whenever we got a storm. I = wuss, but oh well. Sorry to everyone that lost stuff.

Put a pile of holes in the side of my house. Garrison Woods. Marble sized and bigger. Got my car moved into my garage in the nick of time. House took a beating though.

Garrison Woods here too. Damage to the siding on the north side of the house. Car is okay though.

Kept worrying about windows/skylights.

Not only was the hail bigger than usual, the sheer volume of it was extraordinary. Like pulling the ice lever on a soda fountain.

I wonder what AHSP has to say about this. Obviously they're not magicians and generally do a good job but yesterday's forecast was assessed as a 0, which likely mean delayed response to the cell and ultimately all the carnage. Hopefully the insurance group gets a refund for yesterday.....

I'm sure their contract is full of clauses about stuff like this. Like you said, they're not magicians. Lots of storms tried to fire up yesterday and failed which lines up with the forecast. The one that hit Calgary was the exception and of course it hits peak strength over the city itself. If there's any consolation its that the damaging hail was in a pretty narrow band.

Pretty sure no one is dumb enough to sign a contract where they have to predict weather with 100% accuracy in Alberta.

On a somewhat related note, the firesmoke.ca model could really use a re-calibration. It's been consistently wrong about the smoke all week. I wonder if it's just the amount of small fires being more difficult to forecast instead of a few really big ones.

Upon closer examination under daytime light, there indeed are small dents (dimples) on my car roof and drivers side.

Some of the hailstones were literally the size of ice cubes.

Cherry pit sized hail east of priddis. Usually gets heavy as it moves into the city.

I'm just here to read the different objects y'all use for the hail size comparisons.

Also, hail sucks.

Yup. Same...... I thought it was too good to be true that my car came out of hail that size unscathed.

Damn it.

Yeah it's been dead wrong.

Showing Calgary in the clear for the last few days. Not even close.

Ugh. It's a category 8 Typhoon in Hong Kong right now. Everything is closed. We were supposed to renew our HK citizenship cards today and it was booked 5 months ago. My wife is not happy.
